Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), or gross vehicle mass (GVM) is the maximum operating weight/mass of a vehicle as specified by the manufacturer including the vehicle's chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and cargo but excluding that of any trailers.

I saw that, but never heard about what the "carrying capacity" will be

I see in the Top Questions Answered 5-30-14 they committed themselves to 440 lbs. (2 - 6'1", 220 lbs. persons).

Using that and building in a 10% safety factor looks like maybe 480 lbs. carrying capacity max.

An 80% percentile man 50-59yrs is around 250lbs. So ideally it needs to be at least 275lbs. add 1250lbs, plus 50lb in the 'trunk' and you get 1850lbs.

If you use the 220lb stated above I get 1740lbs.

That may be what it "needs" to be, but EM is only counting on 2 at 220 lbs !!

Seriously, who would try to put two 250+ lb people in this thing? That better be a short ride.

As far as I'm concerned, the Elio is a single occupant vehicle with a jump seat. Even a Suburban is too cramped with all 8 seats occupied by average sized people.

I was totally in agreement with the single driver ethic, but then I'm now responsible to drop off my 4yr-old grand child to day care. So I'm glad it's two. That begin said, he doesn't weight even 50lbs. But he and I together, we're under 220lb averaged, lol.
