I have driven past there a number of times. Always wondered what it was but never took the time to investigate.
Nice to see it being re purposed rather than ripped down.

that store is one where my wife would want us to visit in an Elio ..:).. reason being I could get way too much stuff in our other vehicles ..

Good point. Eliminates the ability to purchase large impulse items
I tried that once, taking my wife shopping in a small car. I thought I would save a lot of money . . . then she said those magic words, "Can I have that delivered?" o_O

^^ I found out early my wife is a power shopper. A couple weeks before Christmas many years ago she was living at my townhouse when I was called out of town on business for a few days. She'd wanted to buy a "few Christmas items" for the house and I left her a credit card. BIG mistake.

I came home at the end of the week and when I opened the front door I had to back out and check the number on my gate. This couldn't be my home. All by herself she'd totally rearranged the furniture and from the look of the bathrooms the Sears catalog had thrown up in there. Walmart had contributed sufficient Christmas decorations to cover the bare spots on walls, dining table, and just about any surface not otherwise engaged, and even the room dividers and bannisters were festooned with holly and tinsel. All it was missing was St. Nick himself.

Then I found out I'd been volunteered to play Santa for all the kids at her company Christmas party that night . . . and the suit had been tailored for an elf. I didn't require any additional padding, but the pants ended about a foot above my ankles. That year, Santa wore Tony Lamas, explaining to the kids that they were really handy when working with reindeer.

Later that night, jet-lagged and footsore, I hobbled up to bed - only to discover she'd rearranged my bedroom too. Yeah, like by putting the dresser on TOP of the vanity. If I wanted socks, I'd need a ladder. But she was so proud of her efforts I didn't say anything - I just groped overhead for my socks and underwear for the next couple of weeks.

Maybe that's where I went wrong . . . . o_O

Everything is big in Texas including credit bills and wive's shopping sprees. Did you ever get it paid off?

NSTG8R, is the original still a tourist destination? I would like to see it some day soon. I have a good friend in Carthage, reason enough to go there.

Wierdly, the land of 10,000 lakes to the west of me and my own state (with 14,000 lakes, but no need to brag) both lack a Bass Pro. Nearest one is in Iowa, which may have a lake somewhere :D

We have Cabelas and Gander Mtn though, both places to see but not necessarily buy at.

Well, the friend that used to live down there moved up here 5 years ago, but last I've heard, it still the biggest/baddest Bass Pro Shop in the US (until Memphis opens). Bring comfortable walking shoes and a camera. You're gonna need both! ;)

We've got a Cabela's right up by work, and a Gander Mountain in Fenton, MO (on the way to work). Both are impressive, but come off to me as "wannabe" Bass Pros. If you're going to make a trip down to Springfield, MO, might as well head a little further south afterwards to Branson, MO with your newly purchased fishing gear. Lake Taneycomo has some giant Stripers.:)

The Springfield store is getting a huge addition and also has the former Wolrd of Wildlife opening up again pretty soon. The store here in Sprimgfield supposedly ranks 3rd in Missouri tourist attractions. I only go a few times a year becuase of the crowds. My dogs really like going to the store and wander around no one there has ever said anything about them. One barks at all the crazy stuffed animals they have and likes to watch the ducks swim around in thier pond. The dogs play in and drink water out of the little stream that flows through the camping section. I have to go there this weekend to buy some Tevas, one of my dogs chewed on my last pair.

Wasn't aware you lived in MO, Chaz. Springfield's a great little [relatively speaking] town to live in.
