I was just showing and commenting last night to a friend about that using google maps. I think most feel Hawaii is much much bigger then it is, and Alaska as much smaller then it is. I think it comes from the maps with the USA on them. They always blow up Hawaii, so you can see it, and shrink Alaska so it fits. But I think most feel the size is relative to the scale used on the other states. I know I use too, till later on in life.

Welcome to the Elio Family! Took an Alaskan inside passage cruise back in early May 1995. It turned out to be some of the warmest days in May any locals could remember. 62-67 degrees and we packed for 45-50. Needless to say we spent some of our tourists money on t-shirts. The only time we took out our jackets was when we got up close to one of the glaciers and the wind coming off it chilled you to the bone. We had a blast, despite the sea sicknesses I suffered when we hit open ocean. That ended all thoughts of sailing the ocean blue!

I've lived in Alaska twice. Once when I was a little kid from 1949-51 and later from 1964-66. It will be interesting to hear how the Elio stands up to the mountains and weather.
