If you really, truely believe that the Elgin will be hard to see and difficult for people to use, then the first model year will make that abundantly clear. Expect an optional dash for the second model year, or perhaps even a recall if it is deemed bad enough.

But personally, I think it will be fine and y'all are whining too much about too little.

I was hoping someone having experience with gauge movements would respond telling how difficult it would be. I see removing the rotating disk and adding the needle as being the most difficult part.
Gut feeling: The disk rotates the opposite direction as a needle. To make it look the way people expect, the disk would have to rotate counterclockwise when accelerating. A needle gauge rotates clockwise when accelerating. If you just tried to replace the disk with a needle, your gauge would rotate backward.

Also, gauge movement is very fragile. The pieces are light and easily broken. I'm not saying you couldn't do it, no way to tell without actually seeing it, but you'd have to be painstakingly careful, even assuming that you could get it open.

Given that this thread was asking for discussion of this topic, it seems reasonable to thrash out the details which went into our varied opinions. A calm and respectful exchange of views is pretty far from whining don't you think? It isn't like I mentioned YELLOW or filling the gas tank from the DRIVER'S SIDE or anything really controversial.

Actually, when I started this thread I was looking for other people who liked the Elgin, not looking for the opinions of the haters. Not every thread needs to be a democracy :p

I would gladly sacrifice a newborn Arcimoto or even a Tesla at the altar of Lord Elgin in order to move my Elio production date up. Someone else's vehicle, of course. :p
In the words of that great 19th century writer, Artemus Ward,
I have already given two cousins to the war and I stand ready to sacrifice my wife's brother.
