All depends on the gearing, A '71 VW Westfalia only has 66hp, has no real aerodynamics and weighs around 3600lbs but they get around just fine.
I had one of those when they first came to the US. I love that car. With two little boys, it was absolutely the best Mom car in the world. Especially because I loved camping. Thanks for the wonderful memories your picture give me. :-) Z

My brother had one of them and the wind blew it onto its side as he was going down an on ramp. He never did make it home for Thanksgiving that year.

My father bought one for the boy scout troop, he sold it when for easter I climbed THROUGH a giant rust hole in the floorboard to put easter eggs inside of the locked vehicle.

I experienced crosswind driving going from Austin, TX to Tallahassee, FL. What a nightmare. I was exhausted when I arrived at the evenings destination.
Mine was bought in Austin and then years later we moved to Toledo, OH. By this time the car was 13 years old and the sliding door on the side was almost falling off because of the rust damage caused by winter salt. It was still a great Mom car when my kids were young. We had some great times in it.

Now it's my turn to have fun in my Elio! Here Elio, come on, you can do it. Good Elio! LOL :-) Z

I've owned three VW buses in my life and loved each one of them. The we're so much fun to drive. I hope my Elio will give me the same amount of driving pleasure

I hear ya. Something about that cab over style just makes it fun. When I was young my family had a 60'$ econoline camper van. Oh the memories...

Rust proof, may blow over in the wind, weighs significantly less than 3600lbs, sleeps 4
