Maryland born and raised myself. What most people do not realize is that Central Maryland is VERY transient compared to say the western and eastern parts of the state.

LOTS of government employees and defense contractors from all over the US and the world even, always coming and going. I had new classmates on a regular basis growing up in school, especially when I lived in Aberdeen with the Proving Ground for the Army.

And to travel West to East across Maryland is a good 8 hour drive plus, from the Keyser Ridge Mountain to the Assateague State Park at the other end south of Ocean City. But there is a LOT of cool things to see and do packed into a small state.

As for me, I just commute now, I have no intention of ever moving back.

Lived in Gaithersburg and then Bethesda for two years while working for IBM. Lots of fun to be had as an early 20-something, but I would not want to move back. That traffic was horrible. Not necessarily the congestion but it seemed like the drivers were a lot more aggressive than in the southern and western states. I moved to Los Angeles after that and the traffic was dense but more mellow. I was never afraid for my life commuting on my motorcycle, even with lane splitting.

I worked at NAS Pax River down in Lexington Park and lived across the bridge in Solomons for about 18 months, back in the early 90's. I enjoyed living in that area, lots of thing to do and places to explore within easy driving distances.

Grew up in College Park, then in the mid 90's lived in lower Anne Arundel. After I retired from Giant Food in '08 we moved to lower slower Delaware because of the huge difference in taxes of all types.

I'm bitter and angry with the world, so I troll.
Is that you Wayne? You're not going to last long here, troll. Don't blame others for your unparalleled stupidity.

Dear Friends,All legitimate
Do any of you live in Maryland? Have you made a deposit on an Elio? Would you like to eventually drive it? Me too.

Well, I received some very bad news today. It seems that if each of us were to receive our ELIO's today, they may not be registered to in the State of Maryland (if current Maryland Law remains unchanged).

Why? The representative of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration Department of Motorcycle Safety
told me the following:

1) The ELIO is not a Motorcycle.

2) Though Maryland Law states that any vehicle with fewer than 4 wheels is considered a Motorcycle, the ELIO does not conform to the Maryland State Definition of a Motorcycle.

3) Maryland Motor Vehicle Law section 21-1302, paragraph d, states that to ride what is considered a "Motorcycle", one must sit with both legs astride the vehicle.

4) There is currently no classification to Register an Autocycle, in the State of Maryland.

Wow....I really hope that I was given some bad information. It is my hope that somebody here might help me to feel better about spending $1000 on a vehicle that I may not currently register.

If this is good information, perhaps the ELIO staff lobbyists know all about this and they are working to correct the problem.

Does anybody have data on this subject?

Please Advise,
All are legitimate concerns, I hope the powers in office see the light and make the Elio eligible in MD. In my Lyman's mind call it anything they choose, I believe a car is more fitting it is a car.jkb
