I get that locking in theoretically helps with the DoE loan, but it is not a guarantee. I also just don't want to be on the hook for $6000 more without a defined timetable or even final vehicle specs for that matter.
And that has been discussed and it's not true.

You can't guilt him into it, or at least you shouldn't; it does set a bad example.
If he wants to pay the extra $300 you can't force him into not spending it.
I'm not doing any such thing. His choice is his choice. It has to be respected, and he has his reasons for making it, which he was generous spirited enough to post. Your contention that he is the only one affected by the choice is neither true nor valid, and that's what I was challenging.

You'll notice i liked his post, which I did upon reading it. I didn't do that because I agreed with him, but because I respected his candor and honesty.

I feel the exact same way. But I'm happy with the 7300. From how I read it, we are now locked in at 7300 without doing a thing. Since 6800 was projected so very long ago, fact it only went up 500 dollars is pretty good.

Also, we will be paying Elio 300 more when the time comes, which will help there bottom line. And at Elio get togethers, others can make fun of me for paying 300 more. Perhaps buy a 300 dollar Elio accessory to show off, or hold 3 Benjamin Franklin up to me and laugh.

Elio gave me time to get my house paid for, so when the time comes, I should be able to wing it even with the 500 more. (Thanks Elio for allowing me time to become debt free, now just don't wait till i'm too old to drive or dead)

Talk about commitment, Elio is the only independent auto company to develop their own engine in over 60 years. They are firmly committed to this vehicle being produced in the good old U.S. of A. They went from a simple tubular steel frame construction with 'glue on plastic panels' to a much more complex stamped steel unibody construction with steel body panels. That's what I call commitment. Hell yeah I'll pay $7,000 each for two of these vehicles, and I also own 800 shares of their stock. Anything I can do to speed them on their way. We all knew going in that this was a very difficult endeavor that Paul was taking on. Yeah I'm locked in.

Damn 800 shares!? I hope Elio gets off the ground for your sake. You would make a ton.

as this is being typed, the poll is showing 67 locked in which is 94.4% of the respondents .... with them needing 65,000, its clear that EM has a major task in front of them .... it would appear likely that we can anticipate a good deal of effort on their part to spread the word and we shouldn't be surprised if we receive an increased volume emails and other such communications
Oh my heaven. I'm getting besieged by Elio adds online already.

Quite right. But to reassure the nervous, it's also true that you don't owe $7,000 unless Elio has a car to sell you that is substantially the same as what they've been offering.
Guaranteeing the purchase REQUIRES that there be a product to purchase. But it eliminates being able to walk away from you deposit when they do build the Autocycle. Most of us were committed to purchase as soon as we put down good money. I personally think the ATVM people are just looking for reasons to justify their decision, whichever way that goes.
