Alright ladies and gentlemen, let's get into week 1 of the NFL! Many many close games over the weekend, lots of exciting finishes, an overtime game, a few missed FGs at the end of games. As it seems to happen in week 1 usually, lots of road teams got a win. And in many of these games, the team with the more turnovers won! But lots of REALLY close, exciting games.

Car 20 @ Den 21 - In the Super Bowl 50 rematch, Den was down 17-7 entering the 4th qtr, but they were able to get 2 TDs and hold Car to a FG. Both teams ran the ball well but did not throw very well; Siemian for Den did just enough to not lose it for his team, on his first ever start. He did spread the ball around nicely, four receivers had 4+ catches. Denver had 2 more turnovers and half the penalties, and wins.

GB 27 @ Jax 23 - A back and forth game that was in question until the end, Rodgers for GB made some amazing plays as he usually does, Jordy Nelson was back with 6 catches and a TD; Rodgers only threw for 199 yds, sort of a shock; Jax couldn't run the ball but moved it thru the air very well. GB was excellent on 3rd down and had half the penalties that Jax did. GB had 1 more turnover, but wins.

SD 27 @ KC 33 - Oh sure, let's get behind 24-3 in the 3rd qtr, and THEN we'll start playing football. Holy smoke. With 2:47 left in the 3rd, KC scores to make it 24-10. SD kicks a FG with 13:24 in the 4th to make it 27-10. Game over. Right? KC scores 17 pts in the remaining 13:24 to send it to OT. Unreal. KC wins the coin flip, takes the kickoff and scores a TD. SD truly melted down in the 2nd half. It looked like their offensive play calling became conservative, their punter had a 17-yd punt in the 4th qtr, and their defense suddenly couldn't stop the Chiefs. SD did lose their best WR Keenan Allen to an injury in the first half. KC had 1 more turnover, but wins.

Buf 7 @ Bal 13 - Not much offense from either team in points. Bal did have 300+ yds in offense, but Buf only had 168. Bal had 1 more turnover, but wins.

Chi 14 @ Hou 23 - Texans sacked Cutler 5 times, and Osweiler had an above-avg game in his first start for Hou. They ran the ball nicely and won despite being down 14-13 entering the 4th qtr. Lamar Miller ran for 106 yds. Hou was also excellent on 3rd down.

Cle 10 @ Phi 29 - The Browns came and the Eagles Wentz! In his first start he did fairly well, Wentz did. Eags did have twice the penalties, but won this one going away. Wentz threw for 278 and 2 TDs, Griffin threw for 190 and 1 INT. Phi outgained Cle by 115 yds overall. Finally, a losing team had more turnovers, Cle lost 1-0.

TB 31 @ Atl 24 - The Bucs win a division game on the road. Led at halftime by 4 and never looked back. Matt Ryan had a good game, throwing for 334 yds and 2 TDs. But Winston for TB, wow, 281 yds and 4 TD / 1 INT, no sacks. Atl didn't run the ball much or very well. TB had 1 more turnover but wins.

Min 25 @ Ten 16 - Ten was up 10-0 at half, and the Vikes made the proverbial adjustments and won going away. Shaun Hill played well enough for Min, throwing for 236 yds and no sacks. Mariota went for 271 yds, 2 TDs and 1 INT. Neither team ran the ball for more than 65 yds. Ten lost in turnovers 3-0.

Cin 23 @ NYJ 22 - In another very close game, the Bengals get a road win. Dalton was sacked 7 times by the Jets defense, but he hung in there and played very well. Fitzpatrick played well enough to win as the Jets running game did very well, 152 yds rushing. Turnovers and penalties were even.

Oak 35 @ NO 34 - Oak enters the 4th qtr down 24-13 on the road. Problems? No problem. They score 22 pts to the Saints' 10 pts, and win by 1. The Raiduhs went for 2 when they got a TD with 47 secs left. A fade route to Crabtree... and it's good! Then Crabtree like an idiot does the throat-slash move to the crowd, gets an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and Oak kicks from their 20. As it ended up, it didn't matter, NO only returned the kick to the 23 yd line, remember this year that a touchback on a kickoff comes out to the 25 yd line and not the 20. NO was indeed able to get the ball to OAK 43 yd line, which means they had a 61 yd attempt by Lutz, and it was long enough but wide left!

Mia 10 @ Sea 12 - Sea is down 10-6 with 4:08 left in the game, to the lowly Dolphins. Russell Wilson leads the Seahawks down the field and they get a 2-yd TD pass to Doug Baldwin with 31 secs left. Extra point kick was blocked, and they hold the Dolphins in the final 3 plays. Mia had 11 first downs the entire game and were outgained by 138 yds. Mia had half the penalties and Sea had 2 more turnovers but wins.

Det 39 @ Ind 35 - Up and down the field both offenses went; neither Stafford nor Luck threw an INT; 898 total yds together. Both teams were good on 3rd down and had zero turnovers. And another fantastic finish... Luck to Jack Doyle, 6-yd TD pass, Colts go up 35-34 with 37 secs left. Lions get the ball at the 25; 19-yd pass, timeout Lions. Nine-yd pass, timeout Lions. 22-yd pass, timeout Lions! They are now on the Ind 25 yd-line. They line up to kick a 43-yd FG... and it's good! Det gets a meaningless safety on the last play.

NYG 20 @ Dal 19 - In another fantastic finish, the Giants get the road division win. Prescott in his first start for the Cowboys did ok, but they had him throw the ball 45 times, despite them running the ball well for 100 yds. Giants were a little better, rushing for 113 yds. Giants had fewer penalties but 1 more turnover, and win.

NE 23 @ Ari 21 - Another game comes down to the wire, another QB gets his first start. Garaoppolo plays very well for NE, and they get the road win in the desert. Palmer played a little better for the Cardinals, but NE scratched out the victory. NE had more penalties and AGAIN 2 more turnovers, but wins.

Excellent report again Jeff, don't know what we'd do without you.
Maybe include injuries? RGIII shoulder, Russell Wilson right ankle
Seattle may sign a vet QB since the replacement is a rookie named Boykin
Looks like Russell might be out for a while.
No word on RG3 yet.

... and the ONE week where I'm REALLY looking forward to a synopsis!

My wife is a SAINTS fan, for crying out loud! I'm a Falcons fan!
#1 in the NFC-South!!!! (I've got to take the victories where I can regardless how small or fleeting)

Atlanta is 1st in points per game, 1st in total offense, 4th in total passing, and 5th in rushing yards per game

and yes, I know that's against the Buccs, Saints, and Raiders... But hey!

It was a good game last night, LOTS of scoring; it's like every time Atlanta got the ball, they went down the field and scored.

Funniest part of last night; Falcons have the ball, RB takes it right, oopp no good, reverses the field, runs to the left; 2 HUGE 300+ lb. linemen chasing the runner; Ryan is a team player and goes to block for the runner; that is, until he realizes there is 300+lbs of line men (#90) running right at him.
EEEKKK what do you do to block! You fall down, making it look like missed block (very poor acting), out of the Linemen's way.
It's the look on Ryan's face walking back to the huddle that was funniest. I'll see if I can find it; as he was thinking about what it could have been like if he actually did try blocking him :jaw:

That WAS funny. If you watch it again, you'll see that Ryan did in fact go to block but realized 2 things. 1. That guy was huge. and 2. He wasn't going to catch the running back anyway. He went to the ground because at that point, he was a target for a hit anyway. Once he hit the ground, he smartly yanked his feet out of the way so he wouldn't get hit with a tripping penalty which would negate the play. I thought that it was pretty smart football. He wasn't trying to act like he fell down there. He was actively going to the ground so he wouldn't get hit. It was the same when Brees went down the second time. He basically dove for the ground as the sack approached.

Bengals lost to Pittsbueh and just plain sucked against Broncos. It was actually a tight game until the second part of the first quarter when the Broncos scored an uncatchable extra 7 points. But it is this the Bengals simply haven't put together yet this year. Dalton's doing okay although his first half was weak yesterday and second half was really strong and he runs like a demon. But the offensive line was weak the receivers on the ball and it was just plain frustrating to watch.
