You say you are from Florida? Hmmm. . . . . . Wonder how many folks know that the "Skipjack" is actually an oyster Luger that sails UNDER sail when her crew is dredging oyster on the Chesapeake Bay?

I'm familiar with the skipjacks of the Chesapeake Bay, used to watch as a kid. I was a sailboat captain for many years in the Caribbean, always wished I could have sailed one of them. Guess there are not many left, but I refer to the small tunas we occasionally catch. By the way, nice model by the way

Spent 2 weeks on the Eastern Shore every Spring for 21 years, and fell in love with the Skipjacks. Took plenty of pictures, ( there are still some to be found there) and found a nice book on one of the trips.
I am, amoung other things, a wood worker and so decided to build a model of the boat. It's built completely from the wood of 1 white pine 2x4. Note the number "50" on her, that was my age when I finished her, and on top of her mast, you will also note the "gold ball,". . . . . . . Denotes that she is "paid for." But you probably know all of the history of the Skipjacks.
Thanks any way. It's been a pleasure visiting with you. Helps us pass the time, waiting for the birth of theses Elio's we all dream about!

I had completely forgotten about the gold ball. I'll have to remember that when I get my skiff paid off.
