Let your insurance agent/carrier know you are adding a vehicle (motorcycle) to your policy............picking the vehicle up at the Factory and driving it home. Follow their instructions to the detail in terms of the individual carrier requirements to guarantee coverage......document the coverage if paying cash. The lending institutions will certainly have all the info they need before they write the check for you to pick it up.......including proof of insurance. Most States require proof of insurance in the vehicle.........and Elio Plates.........until it's officially licensed.

When I bought the last scooter I had, I picked it up, drove off the lot, pulled over and call my insurance company and had the insurance in 5 min. :-D

My luck is something would have happened to total the scooter in the 5 minutes before I made the call. My insurance agent once told me that if I buy a new vehicle it's was understood that he would be insuring it.......so not to worry...............I am a worrier..........so I took care of the details along with documentation before the purchase.

I guess no different than my insurance covering a rental car or your Elio if you let me drive it.

Insurance unless you have some issues is simple one call done.
Temp plate non issue it is done every day all the state you are going to reg it in cares about is the fee and sales tax.
As the time get near and we are pretty sure they will roll down the line it might be a good idea to talk with your insurance company ahead of time. You may get a long hold when you tell them you want to insure a2016- 2017 ELIO

Haven't checked mileage but the trip to pick mine up will likely be in the 700-800 mile range from southern Illinois. Might take amtrack down. Just thought about a potential problem. I have a four post lift in my garage. I will have to add something for the rear tire. Oh well not too big a deal. Looking forward to it all

Elio told me today that if we had a 1000 all in that we are invited to watch our cars completed and there would be no shipping. My only problem is it will cost me the same to get there than they would charge for shipping
what's the "problem"?? to me it's a no brainer, visited SAAB factory (when it was a 3cly oil mix 2 stroke!!) to pick-up my car- it was terrific and educational- great memories- give some thought to drive it home from the factory- good luck whatever you decide- wave to me as we pass each other in our Elios!!

Way back in the early 70's in high school shop our lift had a rolling tire platform for the front tires as you pulled up on the lift the front wheels dropped down onto this platform then the whole platform rolled forward on its own set of tracks. My current lift has a spot on the inside for a tool tray to roll on. Might be fairly easy to adapt some kind of rolling platform to go in there for the back tire. I kind of have something similar now for a jack. I will make it work!

How nice Vern you have a personal lift. Vern, for simplicity could you not cut to length, a six inch wide u-channel, which would set crossways between the two lift rails and attach tabs on the opposing u-channel ends to hold it in position to your lift. This aluminum u-channel would support the rear tire & the back of the Elio on your lift. I am thinking you could fabricate something without needing a welder, yet if you want a welder, go ahead. 1,240 lb Elio, motor/trans in front half could give you 500lb in rear weight for the rear single tire lift weight point.
Enjoy you Elio! your on the right track, fun planing for the future. I am sure others will submit ideas.
Terrence :)
