I know some people who work at US motor works. I asked the person i know he says its for a small 3 cyl engine thats in development. He says they have only sent 5 units for testing. I showed him the pictures he says thats probably it he isnt sure but its supposed to have a high demand in the next coming years.

Well the five units is actually very useful news. This information helps further support other news leaks that EM/IAV have the parts in hand for multiple engines. We will have to see what plays out over the near future but hopefully this means that if there are no major issues they could have an engine for the next prototype relatively quickly after they are satisfied with the dyno testing.

Tell me if I am remembering this correctly, or if I am remembering a dream.
I think I watched an interview with Mr. Elio. He said that all parts supplied by companies other than Elio would have that company badging on it. I think I heard him say the engine would not be badged Elio but IAV.
If that is true, would that mean the engine could be sold on the open market by IAV? maybe even mfg. by Elio?

This is what we are being told about the options in general however I am not sure if this will apply to the engine specifically as this is being produced by Elio and so far all the castings have had the Elio logo all over them, but we will see.

I was kinda hoping for an electric water pump to reduce parasitic drag on the motor. Oh well.....

The energy to drive the pump is coming from the engine anyway, whether it's driving a pump directly or driving the alternator to in turn power an electric pump.

There's no free lunch here.

Mainly elsewhere
The logic of an electric water pump is that the coolant flow can be optimised by electronically controlling the speed of the pump.

At high engine speed, a mechanically driven pump can suffer from cavitation. By limiting the top speed of the pump independently from the engine, this can be avoided. Also, at low rpm, such as in traffic, the electric pump can be run at whatever speed is required to prevent overheating, this is a situation where a mechanical pump might not give enough coolant circulation. Also, the electric pump can be programmed to run after the engine is shut down, to give a nice even cool down.

Downside? Higher cost and more complication because the pump is more expensive, possibly less reliable in the long term, and it also needs its own controller.

Come on we all know electric is free. At least when someone else is paying for it.
No need for an electric water pump. Mechanicals have worked trouble free for many years in a lot of engines
