Good News All! I convinced my wife to let me reserve an Elio. All I had to do was basically promise her a new house.

We were wanting to move to a nicer area anyway, which would be farther from work and would give us a stronger reason to have an Elio. On the same day, (today) I received an email from Elio announcing a Black Friday Promotion, which I am really hoping is a short-lived 50% bonus promotion. I think the hope for an extra 25% (would be another $62 with my $250 all-in reservation) is worth giving up a few spots and waiting until Friday.
Well, my friend, you DID get your way, by ohhhh, at such a price.

But you DID stand your ground, even if. . . . . . Well. . . . , never mind.

Main thing is: You DID get your Elio. CONGRATULATIONS! :)

'You DID get your Elio. CONGRATULATIONS!'

But at what Cost??
New house @ ??K plus Elio 6800$ plus add ons = The Most Expensive Elio Ever, up to this point.
Watched a friend, at work pay near 6K for a 200$ sit-on top, wasn't pretty.
The new furniture plus the boat was near 6K. Looks like you have to pay the price to do it your way, when you're married.!!!lol

Hello All,

I am a young professional in the Bay Area. I desperately want to be a part of this group with my own reservation (I'd get $250 all-in); but I am having a very tough time getting a blessing from my wife, even for a want-in.

She thinks Elios are:
  • not economically practical for my 12 mile commute or for our family of four (debatable)
  • for 'trendy liberal yuppies only' (a slightly negative connotation to her; also opinion)
  • unsafe (unproven)
  • ugly (opinion)
I'd appreciate any assistance on the best ways to counter these points. If I got one, she'd likely never drive it (I'd get a manual, and she can't drive manual), and this would be replacing an 18 mpg Tacoma dblcab as my commuter. Money isn't the issue, and I know I can do it regardless of her blessing, life would just be much easier if she was swayed.

Tell her it's an "And" car, not a replacement. Or you could tell her you want to get a motorcycle instead, then let her tell you how unsafe that would be, and that the cost of driving it is not really cost effective. Then compare the Elio to the MC. Plus beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so tell her that you already have the most beautiful anything in the world (her) and so everything else pales in comparison.

All any "good" woman has ever needed was a man strong enough to tell her what she needs to hear rather than what she wants to hear.

It's just me with another solution. LMAO

In our house there are two pots of money.

Her money and "our" money.

Yah, same here. :-)

She was initially somewhat resistant, but I just kept talking it up occasionally, and things are looking good now. A big plus for her was the trip back and forth to her folk's house when I'm gone, that's about 45 miles one way.

Trouble is here, something else will have to go before an Elio could arrive (a vehicle, not the wife - already tried that, she kept coming back).

I'm guessing not for long. ;)
I'm thinking that I had better finish what I've started here:
My "all any good woman" statement actually has a happy ending. Yes Wheaters, I'm happily married in that I've learned to beg for mercy. LOL I confessed to my wife that I've yet to find any man on earth that could possibly fill that role and so I've learned to ask for mercy rather than what I really deserve.
