-Is there a safe area of Florida where there is no chance of sinkholes? Technically, no. Since the entire state is underlain by carbonate rocks, sinkholes could theoretically form anywhere. However, there are definite regions where sinkhole risk is considerably higher. In general, areas of the state where limestone is close to surface, or areas with deeper limestone but with a conducive configuration of water table elevation, stratigraphy, and aquifer characteristics have increased sinkhole activity.

In an effort to assist the state residents are encouraged to report sinkhole information by filling out a subsidence incident report form on the Department's website and submit the completed copy to the FAGS. This website also contains information on sinkholes and how they form.

They develop in the thousands each year.
Just noticed your post. Although the Northern part of the state experiences sink holes, down here doesn't happen. It's basically all sand no limestone. heavy rain run-off , controlled by canals, but usually within 24 hours it all gets absorbed.
Living 5 miles inland from the ocean and 3 miles east of the 'glades I think the highest natural hill might be 20 feet ASL.
The highest elevations are the overpasses!! Even with the rain the area is not considered in a flood zone. EVERY place has natural damaging conditions. We just try to avoid using the "H" word (me whispering hurricane) According to all the folks who don't know apparently the Pacific El/La Neno's (SP?) have a direct effect if we will get hit- this year, as last should be a no event situation.
The second most natural disaster here is allowing legally blind drivers.on the roads- Are you 85?, license expiring? no problem, re-register online for your 10 year renewed license which will show up in the mailbox!!- no eye test! The odds of an alligator or shark bite pale with being in a car. When I lived up North, they called them accidents- down here "crashes"-Gave up biking, after being rear-ended sitting at a stoplight- and I quote "I'm sorry, I didn't see you"

EXPLORE
Sinkholes such as the one that opened up Thursday night under a home near Tampa, leaving one person missing, just don’t happen in Palm Beach County, Florida's state geologist said today.

“The geology beneath Palm Beach County is different than (in) other parts of the state where sinkholes are more prone,” Jonathan Arthur of the Florida Geological Survey said.

The difference being that in New Mexico there aren't hundreds of people swimming across it. :(
Hell, there isn't enough water in it to get your feet wet.....at least not in Southern New Mexico. Only time it has water is when Elephant Butte Lake releases water for irrigation purposes. I crossed over it today and it was dry as an old bone. The border crossers just walk across a dry riverbed.
