KTBS channel 3 released news today that Elio production is in 2019 now. Also Elio is offering stock at one cent per share. The company's debt is in excess of $370 million and the company has been fined $500,000 for violation of Louisiana business laws.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Channel 3 in Shreveport reported more about this matter today.

Probably not new but things are not looking good.
KTBS Reports as of yesterday that Elio is now worse off financially.

This out of channel 12 in Shreveport today. Elio announces another delay, 2018. No other time frame given. Financial penalty's loom. Debt mounts, talk of closing up shop.

Where is Paul Elio living? See post 358.
There was a big meeting today in Shreveport including all the party's that have a stake in the plant and the promised jobs. It was not a love fest. There was a tour of the plant by these party's and your can read about it on the TV stations webs sites in Shreveport, KSLA and KTBS.
Paul Elio...
Sounds good, it would be a 2K round trip for us.
The wife would not, repeat not, ride two thousand miles in the back of an Elio, she would bring her KIA and our middle son could share in the driving chores, both Elio and KIA. Reason, too old and creaky not to ride in the comfort of an SUV.
Considering the amount of space envisioned to produce the Elio the $6.8K price tag doesn't seem realistic.
They seem to use as much space as the old S-10 and S-15. The old production lines had to accommodate multidoor bodies/chassis, multi engine options and interiors and so on and on. The...
Continental Engineering Services will take possession of one E1A Elio for final tweeking of the design. No mention of crash testing. 100 prototype Elios will be sold to fleet operations.
(I fully expect to see PaPa John's Pizza on the sides and tops.)

Price increased, production delayed, performance compromised, sounds like a news release from American media about the old USSR products.
I was this close // to trading in my gas guzzler for a new Fiat when the gas prices dropped perceptiously. Now I'll keep my big car/big engine till the gas...
The wife just presented me with an estimate for her dental work, $7,000.00.
So it looks like a choice between buying an Elio or getting her dental work done.
Thinking........thinking........thinking..........which should I choose?
I'm retired, on a fixed income, drawing social security...
Shreveport Times had a big article about Elio production today.
http://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20140519/NEWS0503/305190007/Elio-production-delayed-mid-2015?nclick_check=1
Production hopefully will start in Mid 2015, but cars may not be ready until 2016. Still lots of big ticket items...
Shreveport is a port. There are lock and dams to the port of New Orleans. Barge traffic to and from plants on the Red River is robust. Although Louisiana is a right to work state the auto industry was union from the get go. So each plant will have the opportunity to decide, union or not.
Your verbalizing the very problems the Elio folks are facing. Economy of scale.
One could also say, "counting your chickens before they hatch".
I wonder how much capital the Elio production effort will require, today, to get started?
Prolly a few hundred million.
I don't want to think...
On one level I want the Elio to retain the present motorcycle classification because I anticipate lower insurance premiums and recurring license fee. But I can see where others would like a car classification.
