I would guess a "clunker" is determined by gas mileage and age. My current car is @187K miles and is 12 years old gets average 30mpg so it might be a clunker.

Most cars made today wont be classic cars.
Most cars made today will be extremely difficult to restore in 50 years. There are so many sensors and other items that will be extremely difficult to find. If a part is missing from a car of 50 years ago, that part could be improvised. That is becoming increasing difficult.

I have learned many other states now have emissions tests to be registered, just like California. Without those parts, they can not be made to meet emissions testing and thus will not be registered.

Thats a very good point sensor laden cars will be a pain to restore. If i had some cash and space i would be buying some cars i feel will be future classics.

Are they designing and building destined to be classic styled cars today? I didn't think so. Most go through the wind tunnel to maximize aerodynamics and all come out looking very similar in style.

The Elio breaks the mold.

A "handful of beans" is about all you get for a trade in.

Drive them till they fall apart and can't go any further. Than shoot it and put it out of it misery.

Honestly that is my plan. I will maintain it until the engine throws a rod or something I can't fix. I can just about any other component.

The car is far from a beauty with its dents, but GM did something right for once with this ecotec motor and getrag transmission that I have.
