A second door isn't worth the cost and weight in my mind. But then, the only passengers I plan to carry in my Elio are my dogs, so that half door could be handy for them.

I could see the next model being a true two seater with a longer cabin to accommodate the RX-8 style doors and a hatchback shaped trunk area big enough to hold two full size suitcases. That would make it much more viable as primary transportation.

Hyundai has a 3 door car. As you can see, the driver's side door is larger than the passenger and 3rd door. I must say, it makes accessing the rear seat in a small car much easier

My last car was a 2012 Hyundai Veloster. It was a great car, LOVED it. The extra door was great for toting my son around since he only rides in the back.

I used to have a 1976 AMC Pacer that only had two doors but the passenger side door was longer than the driver's side, to help passengers get into the back seat easier too.

Before that I had a 1964 Lincoln with suicide doors... Apparently I like oddball door configurations? Looking forward to my single doored Elio! Maybe I will put a Lambo style door hinge on it just to funk it up a little more ;)

Why two doors won't work.........
Here's the cars structure...........

Somehow I don't think you could get a door in there without destroying the structural integrity. ;)

That's what I was thinking too. We've had a similar discussion before, with the conclusion that the structural integrity / safety / design would have to change significantly.

Or, make a smaller half door / suicide door on the right side, for the back seat?

This is the idea that has my blessing. The B pillar on the right could be moved forward a little bit without destroying the roll bar and the door could be hinged on the B pillar for a conventional swing. Then the larger dogs would have an easier access. I could put a screen between the seats. Don't you just love the contributions made to this Blog?
