Got a surveillance camera set up at home using zoneminder. Thinking of resetting the two cameras that can see my driveway and the one inside the garage to a more normal 30FPS and also re-aiming the garage camera to see more of where the Elio will be.

So my dilemma is: should the video of my Elio finally arriving at home have it parking in the garage nose in, or tail in? I've always parked my Chevy Cobalt nose in. It puts the driver's door away from the wall and there's room between it and the wife's car so I can open the door as wide as I want. With the Elio I figure I can park it either way and still have plenty of room for opening the door.

I think tail in might be a better video since it'll showcase the thin width of the car better.

Just a suggestion. If your garage is attached, park in the spot furthest from the house door to avoid the inevitable trip hazard getting by the wheels. It will take getting used to the design for pedestrians.

Yep, it's already outboard from the house before it's even built. The wife wanted the spot next to the door into the kitchen and I wasn't about to argue about that.

Depends on the level of the camera and your intent for the video. It makes a bigger statement about the three wheels to see the front, a bigger statement about the width using the back. If you desire the best overall look, depends on the level, try both and you'll figure that one out promptly.
If this is for you-tube, maybe splice the front and back (and any others) together and upload it that way. Don't make it too short, but certainly don't make it too long for each shot.

The camera is hidef (1920x1080) I run it at 5FPS for normal surveillance use, but I'm probably gonna bump it up to 30FPS for this. Actually thinking of getting a different camera sometime between now and Elio arrival day. This one has field of view that is a bit too narrow, good for longer shots, not so much in the close confines of the garage. There's an identical model camera with a wider field of view available. I only put this camera in there because I bought it by mistake actually before I realized the field of view spec on it. I can see whether both garage doors are open or closed so it was serving it's purpose until now.

BTW, if you're curious, the cameras are from GrandStream, model GXV3672_FHD, one with a 8mm lens, the other (wider FOV) is 3.6mm. They work great with zoneminder.

Do you use any particular software to put the video stream into file?

Zoneminder saves to image files, jpg. It runs on Linux so a quick run of ffmpeg will build a decent mpg file or really any format I want with just one or two commands. I'm a Linux guy and kind of old-school, usually prefer command line solutions over a GUI for most anything.

I guess my question would be, Why would you want to publish videos of the inside of your garage? To call attention to a thief so that he might figure out how to break in? The inside of my garage and my security system is private. The less people know about it, the better.
