I feel a bit sorry for people who bought the LEAF that paid close to 30K but didn't get as much fun factor as what the model 3 offers. 0-60 in under 6 seconds, zipping along almost silently and sipping no gas???? Come on now, if that's not "FUN" , then I don't know what is!!:D

I only paid $14k for my gently-used Leaf, and it still does 0-60 in about 7 seconds :D It doesn't have the range of the Model 3 (or the upcoming Chevy Bolt) but otherwise it's a wonderful car and I have no buyer's remorse :)

I'm hoping that in 5 years or so, I'll be able to trade in our 2012 Leaf for a 2017 Tesla Model 3 :D
People keep comparing EV Range to Gas tanks, but most people don't fill up their gas tanks at home every night. 215 miles is more than most people drive in a day. Heck, we rarely use the full 84 mile range of our Leaf! But for those with longer commutes, the Elio is here to answer the call.

For those planning long family road trips: it's far cheaper to rent a car for the 1-trip per year that most families take, rather than buy an inefficient car to drive for the rest of the year.

Up here in Washington state, I usually see one or two Teslas every week, and I see Leafs almost every day (not including my own :p ) EVs are pretty popular out here on the West Coast, as too the Elio will be if Reservations-by-State is any indication.
You must live in a very compact community. It would never work in Texas outside of the Peoples Republic of Austin. We have cities bigger than some states.

Are there different electric motors or controllers for different trim levels? I see some reports of 7s and others over 10s for 0-60: http://www.caranddriver.com/nissan/leaf#

On the contrary, I don't know about you fellas but I signed up for my ELIO because I'm looking for a "FUN" car. So the fact that it can deliver a "promised" 84 mpg, American made with American labor are topping on the cake for me. Tesla model 3 while all electric have the range of 200+ miles that I need for my daily driving, and looking at their huge reservations so far, that's the range that's acceptable to them and the price is more affordable. I feel a bit sorry for people who bought the LEAF that paid close to 30K but didn't get as much fun factor as what the model 3 offers. 0-60 in under 6 seconds, zipping along almost silently and sipping no gas???? Come on now, if that's not "FUN" , then I don't know what is!!:D Not only does it drives on regular 4 wheels, one has to admit that it'll be much safer than the ELIO. EM got my 1K and I'm still hopeful and patiently waiting...Tesla will get my 1K and also will be waiting 'till next year but guess what, who do you think will be rolling off cars first and actually delivering it to their excited customers???? The one who's got the MONEY of course!!!! :D So Tesla lost 800 mil, so what, it's not my money but more importantly, they have more money to spend to make their cars more mainstream. Yes, ELIO will drive much longer, will be much cheaper, how much cheaper??? The base and "target price" to me is highly suspect. I've never seen any start up car company successfully introduced and roll off cars for that price before but that's why we're all here....got caught up in that low price hype. Still, nothing has change on EM's claim so if they are hopeful that they can deliver, so am I. ;)
I agree with the exception of feeling sorry for Leaf owners......they had functional transportation without stops for gas for many years. Perhaps the money they saved on fuel costs and maintenance helped to pay for the Leaf.

Seattle seems to be The Home of Tesla! Only excitement it draws is the color. 30 yr old kids with $!!
My plan 1.- Sell my first, think the cool factor, and "inner city" driving will get me a premium above OTD price-
Wasn't here when Prius was introduced, you can trip over them here- followed by Subaru's with roof racks!!

........plus since Texas legislated Tesla Stores out of their State. The added range required to purchase and drive a Tesla home from a neighboring State means that Texans will probably have to trailer their new EV into the State providing there are no Tesla Stores within a 200 mile radius.

That's good. I have no doubt it's a "fun" car and very useful for your intended purpose. I also like your comment about using rental cars for long commutes. I remember a while back, took my family and our car on vacation and half way to our destination, the car broke down, lost 2 days to get it fixed, paid ridiculously large amount of money to get it done quicker so we can still enjoy what's left of our vacation and with less spending money. Rental cars are more convenient, I rental company that have stations close to where I'm headed and it gives me peace of mind. Replacement is quick and you're on your way.

Lol. Very true. Tried crossing Texas and had to stop several times. I enjoyed the humongous steaks they serve.

I totally agree Rickb. TM's Model 3 at it's base price of $35K is comparable to most decent cars nowadays. Spending 60K upwards to buy Tesla Model S is stupid in my book ( my opinion only) even if I have the money to burn, I can get my FUN factor w/ a middle entry BMW or Porsche for less. Spending $35K even if it's entry level for a Model 3??? No brainer in my book. I never had the luxury of having so many toys in my lifetime that I can afford and my wife will tolerate having, but it's exciting to finally get to own a car that I don't have to smell gas fume, let alone line up at our local Costco to get cheap gas! :D

Well that's where the ELIO comes in. Marshall will have to settle with the ELIO for longer commutes and Model 3 for shorter ones. Problem solved! :D
