True. Have you read the book "Fair Chase"? I always felt there should be some challenge involved in hunting. However, I try not to judge others. I mean, if hunters hunted from vehicles regularly, wouldn't that eventually make Deer avoid roads? That wouldn't be a bad thing entirely.

Ty, Don't want to debate the pros and cons of this subject on this forum.
Not the appropriate place.
Come to Texas Hill Country for a hunt some time.
It's a different world and has been an eye opener for some.

I agree. I wasn't disparaging any particular hunting method. I surely didn't mean it as an attack on anyone. I've parked on the side of Hwy 89, crossed the fence and bagged a Muley. 20 feet doesn't make much of a difference but the law in Montana requires it. I meant to say that it may be good to train wildlife to be more wary of the road and vehicles. Anyway, like you said, not the place for a hunting debate. But, I don't want you to think I'm against you there. You mentioned fair chase and I thought you were referring to the book they gave us at hunters ed. That's all. Sorry for any confusion here.

No offense taken.
It's a different world.
Do you think I could get my Elio upholstered in Axis hide?

The meat is great and the hides are real pretty.
Best part is I can take them on my ranch.

Following this thread I have to wonder how many of the people on here have ever really "ordered" a new car.
By that I mean, gone on line and looked up all of the options and then gone in and told the salesman .... This is what I want, and these are all of the options I want, and these are a list of the dealer installed options I want. Oh, and I don't want the standard tires, I want these instead. Then waited the six to eight weeks for the vehicle to arrive at the dealer.
Sounds like a lot of people want to go to a dealer and pick one off the lot.

I bought my Subaru sight unseen from a dealer in NY. It is a good Subaru but I forgot to specify NON-SMOKER when I ordered it. That was an important oversight for an asthmatic person. Ordering is going to require some important foresight.

If it was a new car, why did you have to specify non-smoker? I'm confused by this.

Yes, I think it would make it more interesting. You would really need to know what you are doing then.

In 1970, I attended a bull fight in Nuevo Laredo. A drunken American in the stands kept yelling to the Matador to "keep it fair". He wanted the bull to have a sword also. Unfortunately, for the Matador, the bull won in the second round. Then they ran in the substitutes to kill the bull. Sometimes, no one wins. The matador did survive and was on the evening news, but his reputation as a fighter was tarnished. I always thought that the bull should have been retired. He won an unfair fight.

The book is about a hunter who tracked a deer to a river where the deer made a big try to jump across, didn't quite make it but swam to the other bank. It walked up the bank, turned broadside and looked at the hunter. He had a shot lined up but didn't take it. The deer had beaten him fairly. Anyway, back on topic!

I thought it a little underhanded that Elio would make carpet an option. Oh wait, you wanted an armrest? Option! Oh, you actually wanted a shifter knob? Option! It seems they did it as a cost savings method for them. They can offer the car for as inexpensive as they are if they make enough items optional. I get it - not everyone will want carpet... I guess... I have seen trucks with rubber floors but never a sedan. At least nothing made in the last 50 years or so. My '65 Mustang even had carpet. Hmm... maybe it wasn't standard either. Anyway, I would bet that 95% of the people who buy an Elio will end up either buying the carpet as an option or adding it later themselves by cutting and trying to mold something into place.

At what point do you make an option standard equipment?

The last car I can remember that didn't have carpet was a 1950 Dodge that my father bought new when I was six years old.

At the point where people are willing to pay more for a higher base price. Unfortunately Elio quoted such a low base MSRP for so many years that people thought it was an actual locked in price. So when they did actually announce a price they had to do what they could to get as close to it as possible. $50 here, $20 there adds up.

That reminds me, I remember them saying years ago the windshield washer system was just a cap and tube designed to fit on regular gallon jugs that the fluid is sold in. Do we know if that is still the case?
