i just purchased a smart car because I can't wait forever I know they are two different vehicles, there is something we must all accept, is this may never happen. It seems to get close and then nothing. I like to thing it's not true but aftering reading the history of automobile manufactures in the US from the 1800's to 1942 history seems to be repeating itself.
I sure hope that you are happy with your new Car, but I will be staying with Elio, and I feel good about that. I have been a fan of Elio for a year now, and hope to get my Elio in the next year or so! If not, then I might be saying the same thing next year. Let us all know how your Smart Car performs.

Really surprised at the ratio of people going with a Smart. I would have thought that a Mitsu Mirage would be the replacement of choice.

Interesting stuff.

I could not care less about gas filling from left or right. Just please do not make me have to lift the rear seat or unload the "trunk" to get to the gas filling opening... That WOULD be a pain!
Hey, hey, hey, there! It's called RETRO, mister! All the hipsters are into it.

(Or, to quote Zaphod Beeblebrox, "I'm so hip I have trouble seeing over my pelvis.")

Maybe I am reading your response wrong, but how is buying a different car now not "staying with Elio"? Elio has no current offering to stay with. We are allowed to have other cars and still support Elio. When the Elio comes out, we can still buy the Elio and sell our current commuters if that is the plan. I bought my Miata (used but in good condition) a couple months ago since I needed a commuter now. I cannot tell my boss that I would make it into the office but waiting for the Elio...

I would say (and have said in the past) that if someone needs a new car now then get it now and not wait for a maybe. I REALLY hope the Elio comes and I think it is a great idea for a commuter. What drew me initially to the Elio and draws me still is that is seems the ideal replacement commuter for motorcycle riders for comfort and shelter from foul weather. But if the Elio does not make it into production, I will not lament my time waiting since I did not choose to go without for those years until it was supposed to be ready.

Agreed; the Elio was never intended (ok, in the beginning it was) but now it is advertised as an ...."And"...... vehicle.
It's not going to be sold as "the only vehicle you'll ever need", it's a supplement vehicle.
