OK, I read somewhere where 500 ICE vehicles also crash and catch fire every day, but that doesn't seem to get attention. Why? I believe it is because we know from the movies and TV what to expect when gasoline blows up. We know if there is a wreck and any kind of gas leak to get the hell away from the vehicle as soon as possible. But what to we know about the various battery powered vehicles when they are in a crash? Do we believe Tesla (or others) that say their batteries are safe and remain in the vehicle? Just not enough historical data to inform us. I think that every battery fire should make national news until we are more informed as to what to expect.

Sounds like to me that you just don't want to wear a seat belt in a Tesla. The third passenger was ejected from the car which is because that person wasn't wearing a seat belt.

The article I read has a report from a witness that says they were going "50-60" mph in a 30mph area in the local "dead man's curve". The police have stated that excessive speed "may have been" a factor in the accident. Tesla released a statement: "...everything we have seen thus far indicates a very high-speed collision..."

Call me old-fashioned, but what business do 3-4 teenagers have joy-riding around in a Tesla anyway?
Mommy or Daddy's car, and they "borrowed" it, they were good boys, and would always be careful.

BS, they were spoiled brats and went out to see what it would do; they found out what it could do.
No respect for a borrowed car, especially a big $ car that belonged to parents.

Sort of like when my highschool classmate took his dads Boss 429 and stuffed it around a tree killing him and 3 passengers. The news report came out and it was all about how musclecars have too much power. Nothing was said about he was screwing around in dads car that he never should have been in the first place. At the time it was easier to blame the car which seems to be something that hasn't changed.

Some of you old timers may be able to verify… Didn't the news media hype wrecks involving the first SUVs? Seems like the media tried to paint SUVs as being dangerous because of the extra heft they had over cars at that time. Too much mass in impacts…..
