Seriously? The Gas Cap Has A Real Unmodifiable Reason To Be On The Wrong Side?

I am surprised people are still posting in this thread. The decision has been made by Elio so its done deal. I am used to right side fuel doors as all the cars I have owned had them on the right.

I used to be very opinionated about "right VS. left". Then I got a car with it on the right. Now I realize it makes NO difference (to me). Where I live there is no difference in which side of the gas pump is used more. It's the SAME. Folks just pull up to the pump from the other end. :)

"However, while the placement or shape of the fuel icon doesn't signify anything in itself, nearly all newer models of automobiles do include a small triangle next to it that indicates which side of the vehicle bears the fuel door. While you can't count on finding that triangle on every single instrument panel, it's certainly worth looking for."

Yes, it is the small triangle I was referring to....

How often do you see this guy?

At least it would be easier with your Elio . . .
I got a pump shut off for doing that. Mgr. said it was "unsafe" - of course, at a different station I was told not to back in, either. Again, unsafe. Guess which 2 stations I never darkened the door of again?

Both of these were while trying to fill the empty side of an old Chevy truck with dual tanks (one on each side).

I had an international Travellall as my first SUV - long before they were popular. The dual tanks were handy - fortunately - as the gas gauge was rather erratic. I'd just drive on the rear 27-gal tank until the engine sputtered, then pull the knob on the dash to switch to the other 15 gallon tank under the passenger's floorboard, reminding myself to get gas soon. But that was often a problem. The fillers were on the left flank behind the wheel arch and behind the right front wheel, about 18" off the ground. Nice.

That was the strangest automobile I ever owned. A friend I met about that time had worked on IH's St. Louis assembly line and confirmed that because they bought parts cheap from a variety of overstocked sources, seldom were any two vehicles alike. That scrap of computer paper covered with numbers that lived in the glove compartment was absolutely vital. I was told that was the "line setting ticket", and it was the key to the pedigree of every part on the car. It was almost impossible to replace parts without it. Mine had an AMC 401 CID engine, a GM transmission, a Ford rear end and Dodge brakes on the front, Ford on the rear. Most Travelalls were real mutts . . . But hey, they worked. :)

Elio may be assembling parts from a lot of sources, but it looks like it has it's vendor list locked down. I'm not expecting any surprises at the parts house.
