One Marshmallow... Or Two?

Years ago a diabetic school friend of mine was being bullied out if his special chocolate. Apparently the school bully had a routine of forcing him to hand over the whole bar and chomping the lot during early morning break. When my friend's mother found out she was livid, that chocolate was there to save his life.

She decided on a cunning plan. It involved my friend taking a bar of laxative chocolate to school every day....

I love "poetic justice!" And I despise bullies. Unfortunately, here in the States, people have been "sued" for retaliating by doing that very thing!

I got in trouble in high school, the school government held a fundraiser selling candy, I bought their entire stock and resold it myself at 4x the price (successfully). The principal really didn't like that. I don't see why as the student government raised the funds they wanted in a single day and I paid for my school lunch for the next 4 months that week.

Studies like this have always amazed me! The most recent one, the bigger the diamond on the engagement ring the shorter the marriage! Guess that explains why my relationship with my wife has lasted 30 years. The first 29 years our commitment bands had 4 tiny diamond chips and our wedding rings don't have any stones at all. Guess that puts me in the delayed satisfaction category! If I can wait 29 years to get married, I can wait a year or more for a car!

Whoa! 4 diamond chips?! Ours only had one and a small plain band! We've been married 34 years and counting. We're fond of saying, "We've been married __ years, but sometimes is seems like forever!" You have to hear the voice inflection to get the import of it. I think the whole question of 1 or 2 marshmellows is under something they now call Emotional IQ. Those that have a higher EIQ # are more mature, emotionally stable people able to deal with real life and all it's vicissitudes (I like that word!). Waiting in order to get the better good is one of the marks of higher EIQ. Have I always succeeded in going that route? Heck no! I've had some pretty spectacular failures. But when the program has been set up like Elio where you put $$$ down and wait for them to complete the build completely, wanting something less than complete because the process is taking too long is a test of your EIQ. It's a chance to grow and mature. Hold out for that second marshmellow!!

I think the measurement in this case is 4 micro chips equals one chip! Yeah, we didn't have 2 quarters to rub together at that point, but I decided to go all out!

Interesting question. I guess I am a 2 as long as it isn't marshmallows - I don't like them. LOL But I am definitely willing to wait to get the Elio when it is truly ready to be delivered.

My Dad had read that you could check by watching your kid eat birthday cake (layered cake). If they ate the icing first, they weren't into delayed gratification very much. If they ate the cake all together, they were able to delay their gratification. I remember he had Mom make a cake and then gave us all a piece. My brother and I would eat the cake out between the icing and then eat the icing last. He just shook his head.
