Many years ago I won a Honda Gold Wing in a poker game, it had Hondamatic tranny. Very smooth shifting and was obviously designed for a 1000cc bike. Since the engine is to be 900cc in the Elio, I wonder if they can use a bike automatic which is usually 2 or 3 speeds.
Wouldn't a 3 speed defeat the goal of hyper-efficiency at 84mpg? Can't cut out the high gears for that reason, and cant cut out the low ones. Unless it was geared to be similar to 1-3-5 of a car transmission, but I can't imagine THAT would be a smooth ride!

I remain optimistic that 2015 will be the year I get to drive off in my Elio. I have been holding off on purchasing a new vehicle since putting my money down. I currently drive a 2007 Honda Civic coupe and love almost everything about it. It's not a fast car but then again I am no longer built for speed if you know what I mean. My plan is to purchase a portable garage for my Elio (7 X 16 enclosed trailer) and pull it behind my motorhome. I plan on doing two week stops at various camp grounds throughout the country and after setting up camp using my Elio to explore the local attractions. I would also like to do a complete Route 66 trip. Anyone interested in forming a caravan to a trip across the country? Sure is nice to dream, isn't it?

no if about it, all too well understood ..... when the subject comes up I tell people that I have deceptive speed .... yep, I'm even slower than I look ..

we travel the country about 6 months a year (we were out and about 177 days in 2014) but we tow a 5er and will not be able to take our Elio along on most trips .... I suspect that it won't be long until we see quiet a few Elios tagging along behind motorhomes .... hope to see yours somewhere down the road
