RUCRAYZE
Elio Addict
Senior Members (of the) Elio Racing Fraternity -SMERF(S). Team Captain RUCRAYZE, captured first place in the 70-75 age group!!
As the race unfolded, sad to report two of the three EM team members were forced to withdraw. The first, when his Attends fell off.The second, strayed from the course.
A "Silver alert" was issued immediately. For those unfamiliar, this is when a Senior (gray-silver hair) goes missing. The FHP (Florida Highway Patrol) issues an alert. This is quite common in South Florida when an Alzheimer's patient "wanders" They usually turn-up in their neighborhood, sometimes get the car, and drive away. The Officer reported that the furthest had made it as far as the Georgia/Florida State Line on RT 95, where he was found stopped because he thought he needed his passport
At the medals ceremony the officer addressed the crowed to share his concern, that in the future, Children of Senior Elio Owners try not to allow then to fill-up their tank, as the search zone would be so greatly increased, by the high milage Elio, that the FBI would be contacted, but I digress....
Yours truly, for most of the race, held third place. I was able to overtake the 2nd place runner, I "bumped" him causing him to lose his balance when he dropped his cane.
In an ironic twist of fate, as I approached the leader (very close to the finish line), one of the 4 wheels on his walker fell off and, due to the poor configuration of the three remaining wheels, was soundly defeated!!!!!
Yes-Some B.S. but I did come in first in my age group (70-75).
Footnote:
December 2010 I weighed 215 lbs, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetic, and resting pulse 85-90. On two separate occasions required stints in my legs (PAD) Peripheral Artery Disease and consuming a pile of meds
Since 2011- 145lbs, no meds except that 81mg aspirin, resting pulse of 60-65 everything else normal.
Aside from my kids, my greatest accomplishment!!
I'll keep staying healthy in hopes I get to drive and remember that I own my Elio.
Joe
