All industrial countries should have exhaust gas tests at annual inspection, with the engine goosed well beyond idle RPMs. Exhaust fails means inspection fails.

I know France has exhaust gas checks annually, I got caught once. I wonder why the French tests didn't catch the excessive NOx from the VW diesels?

They probably caught it they just gave up on prosecuting:boink::bolt:

AHA! Found this, guys... From an article on vox.com...

"Since 2009, we now know, Volkswagen had been inserting intricate code in its vehicle software that tracked steering and pedal movements. When those movements suggested that the car was being tested for nitrogen-oxide emissions in a lab, the car automatically turned its pollution controls on. The rest of the time, the pollution controls switched off."

Hmmm!
Bexar Co. tests emissions. Kerr Co. doesn't. And that's within 50 miles of each other.
Then again Kerr is strict on water during drought. Bexar lets you water your golf course.
Go figure.
