Jevon's Paradox only works in a limited range though.
Extreme example:
I drive 12,000 miles a year. If suddenly I got double my mileage, I might be encouraged to take another trip or two a year adding 2-4K to my total per year. However, that isn't very likely because I only have so much vacation.
Again, you are trying to apply macroeconomic forces to your personal microeconomic situation. That's not the way it works.

Once the battery breakthrough(s) arrive (high power density, faster charging, longer life, lower weight, cheaper material, $100/KwH and less), the demand for EVs will outstrip supply of EVs and probably charging electricity.

Those Battery Breakthroughs™ are only ten years away from production!

Actually, I'll be using mine as a commuter car... 25 miles on highway each way. Saying people won't use he Elio as such is incorrect. In fact, 100% if my urban running about will NOT be done in my Elio as someone is always with me and usually 2-4 other people (mostly small people related to me).
Same here. 42 miles each way to work, 5 days a week. I need the high gas mileage because I drive so far. If I was only interested in a "suburban runabout", mpg wouldn't be my first concern. As with Ty, my suburban travels are generally with my wife and kids, and those won't fit in the Elio. Everything that is not a trip back and forth to work will almost certainly be done in a minivan.

As funny as that is: Elio Motors is in year 8 of their production cycle using off the shelf parts and current technology. So developing that new breakthrough battery technology (Tesla Motors) is going to take a little more time to extend range and lower cost. I am hoping by the end of 10 years EM has finished inventing the Elio and it is awesome.

At that time will be EM's opportunity to convert from gas to EV.

That would be Electric-Powered Awesome! lol

Not so much convert, but rather a Model option. Then we could have both Gas-Powered Awesome & Electric-Powered Awesome.

Don't care if Elio offers an electric motor as an option , but if they "convert" from ICE to Electric entirely , I am not interested at all in buying one .

67% of all US electricity generation comes from fossil fuel burning : Add to that the current challenges in recycling lithium batteries , and only casual environmentalists yearn for electric cars . We may be a decade away from Hydro/Electric vehicles which would make infinitely more sense than running out and buying a rolling toaster.

Coal = 39%
Natural gas = 27%
Nuclear = 19%
Hydropower = 6%
Other renewables = 7%

and coal, natgas dumps their external costs on humans and the environment.

If Tesla and the others are successful getting many people to buy electric cars, the load on the grid will be so great at 6 PM every night the power companies will have to bring every plant they have to maximum production, and likely re-fire mothballed coal and gas plants. Even extend the life of nuclear plants that are already decades past their design life. The price of electricity will also rise so much that gasoline will be cheaper to use. (Elio for the win then! ;) )

The electric industry has been undergoing deregulation, consolidation and major cost-cutting for more than 20 years. As the new deregulated and public electric mega-corporations (e.g. Exelon) prioritize "shareholder value" over system robustness, the grid has become more fragile with less headroom. Adding a few million electric cars that need 50 or so kilowatt-hours of energy every night will cause some, uh, "unplanned events". Think 1965, 1977, 2003.

Paul has directly stated that somewhere down the line they might consider adding an electric powered option .... thankfully, that day isn't today and doesn't appear that day will come for many, many moons .... for them to produce a trike the size of an Elio that would be much more practical that a golf cart, there will have to be major improvements in battery technology .... there simply isn't enough space to store enough batteries to provide power to run very far, very fast .... after having owned and EV, if I had of read EM was developing and EV, I wouldn't have taken a second look
