Well, Elio Motors is going back to the New York Auto Show in March of this year, 2016. I wonder what the response will be. Neither the NY or LA auto shows brought in the large upsurge in reservations like I expected. I wonder if there will be more interest this time. Elio Motors will be showing the P5.

With any kind of luck they will be able to time an event link to the progress of the test automobiles so it corresponds with the Auto Show, thus giving them a news hook.

Was there any recent upsurge with the t v ads?
Good point and I have wondered the same thing! My personal thoughts are if you build it (elio) they will come! I think from my point of view is that elio has advertised plenty and got most interested.in my opinion the next phase should come when physical Elios are driving down the road I think the will sell like hot cakes!
Just my $.02

I agree with Keith, Elios on the road will be the biggest selling event. I actually did see what appeared to be a 'Robin' on the road yesterday, first one I have seen in this country. I think that means the time is right. There was some news coverage of the Elio last year when it was at the NY show, not much, but anything helps. In spite of low gas prices, interest in fuel economy vehicles seems to be higher. I never remember the NY show being in March, I always thought it was in January, right after the Boat show. Winter always brought out the crowds as there was little else to do.

Saw an article yesterday saying that low gas prices are really hurting small car sales. Automakers are abandoning small cars in favor of more crossovers and SUVs. So gas prices are definitely having an effect, reducing the number of small car buyers because gas is dirt cheap right now. Bad news for Elio?

Maybe not. Because the gas mileage is part of a package, and the package is Good-Cheap-Fun. The car's price point makes it very hard to beat, and the gas mileage is a bonus.

That's now how the car has been spun so far, but if Elio is smart, they'll alter the balance in their advertising to reflect the cost, performance, quality and safety factors. Here endeth the lesson.

There is always the case of "seeing what they want to see." We all have to be careful of that !
I always thought the mix of price, efficiency and green credential makes Elio somewhat insulated from the swings in economy and gas prices.
I would say though, the unknowns about production dates and funding is now what limits reservations, but also does the fact that where's the advantage to taking out a res now?
I can see it in people who never heard of the Elio, they perk-up when they hear the price but their energy falls off when they hear it's a year off. Saving the planet is interesting as well, but isn't as strong a motivator. Of course if gas prices were going up again, it would definitely add interest.

What is most needed is to get those E-Series done and tested, and a believable production date. By believable it must overwhelm the doubts that have been published in the past.

One thing that used to 'help' drive reservations in the early days (other than the Elio itself and $4 gas) was that only a reservation could guarantee a year1 delivery. But now EM has projected a 240k production rate, with only 50k taken, so why get one now? EM should say at some point the 50% bonus has a cutoff date. OR any motivator that answers "why get a reservation now?"

This is true at least for me. I dont want to miss the 50% bonus but also want to wait as long as possible to see if Elio is likely to succeed (don't want to waste 1k unnecessarily). I'm $100 all in now and will spend the other $900 when I hear the bonus will soon end - as long as Elio continues to move toward production.

I agree with your most needed statement..........E's-Testing-Production guarantee to eliminate any doubt. I'm guessing we all have a small amount of doubt.

The $Elio and the other 3 Tenants pretty much sold itself when you saw it. What helped drive reservations was the expectation of receiving delivery by the advertised expected production date within a year or so after submitting the reservation deposit.........and the many on track to production statements.
Most people won't reserve a vehicle that is 2-4 years out from production. It's why EM's website still states the on track to Q4 2016 production schedule.........to encourage and drive reservation sales..........Marketing. Whatever works for EM. My opinion only........reinforced by post #8 above.

I consider the target delivery date on Elio's website to be misleading...Q4 '16 is not remotely realistic...

Quoting their recent SEC 1-U filing... "We have not yet generated any revenues and do not anticipate doing so until late in 2016 at the earliest, but more likely in 2017"...

In truth...there's really no need to place a reservation anymore...the Elio has become a stalled project to most consumers...and thus waiting for actual production is probably the most prudent action to take...

When I placed my $1,000 deposit in late 2013... I never could have never imagined there would not be a completed production ready prototype by now...

Unless Elio receives long term funding soon...the estimated production dates have very little real world relevance...

But the good news is...now that Elio is a public company...there will be mandatory quarterly report avaible to review with regards to their progress!
