No, no. Opie was Andy's son by his late wife, who died from 8 self-inflicted gunshot wounds. A terrible accident it was.

Opie. AKA Ron Howard and I are exactly the same age. I have been a fan of his since he played Andy Griffiths son Opie at the tender age of 6 on the Andy Griffith Show. Soon after he left Mayberry and graduated High School he made American Graffiti with George Lucas, Then he, Tom Hanks and Stephen Spielberg met and the rest is history, Apollo 13 anyone? Please don't bad mouth Ron Howard, he's one of the nicest people I've ever met, and from what I hear that's not easy to do in Hollywood.

This doesn't make sense. How does asking if a "character" was adopted relate to "bad mouthing" the actor!
A woman was having a passionate affair with an inspector from a
pest-control company. One afternoon they were carrying
on in the bedroom together when her husband arrived home unexpectedly.
"Quick," said the woman to her lover," into the closet!” and she pushed
him in the closet, stark naked.
The husband, however, became suspicious and after a search of the bedroom
discovered the man in the closet. "Who are you?" he asked
"I'm an inspector from Bugs-B-Gone," said the exterminator.
"What are you doing in there?" the husband asked.
"I'm investigating a complaint about an infestation of moths," the man
replied. "And where are your clothes?" asked the husband.
The man looked down at himself and said,........ "Those little bastards."
