New To Blog, Old To Reservation

Greetings fellow Elio fans. Learned of Elio when it first hit the internet. Sent in our reservation deposit right away. The wait has been long. But, I'll stay patient and eager to drive away in my new Elio.
I have a question and hope to get an answer. Will a trailer hitch be an available option or a frame work that I can add a hitch to? I would like to tow a motorcycle type trailer to be able to tour our country. Any answer out there?

welcome sew4you to the party. the search function at the top of the page is very helpful. It it is about Elio it probably has been discussed. To answer, initially EM said no, but later they said it was under consideration for the production model.

Hey! Welcome to the forum. A long-delayed congrats to you on the reservation years ago.

The easy answer on this is: there is no plan to have a hitch. The design of the single rear wheel makes it difficult (in my eyes) to have a hitch installed. Yes, some auto body place might be willing to tackle such a request, but then the warranty will probably be void at that point. If that's not a big deal, then there ya go.

But many of us are with you: the idea of 2 people traveling in the Elio with one bag in the "trunk" to hold all the stuff... will be hard to be gone more than one night.

Elio does have a roof rack, but not for bags... so far it's just a rack for one of the following: bicycle, surfboard, or snow skis.

Keep in mind, it's only 55 HP !
Of course, we DID do some amazing things with our 68 VW bus

BTW MANY folks here are "older" bike riders with the same concerns about two up touring.
There has been a lot of banter, just keep in mind, that putting on a hitch CURRENTLY and perhaps not in the future, this modification will void the Manufacturer's warranty.
If you are interested, there are long threads specific to this issue. The other major prior concerns, and hopefully never to be heard from again

there are others here with years of experiences modifying engines, body work, installation accessories, and folks who have worked assembly lines.
and..... and....
Ya can't pass off B.S. when it comes to technical issues. There are folks here that could take it all apart and re-assemble it (without any parts left over)
