Stigma About The Back Seat

I have got a lot of comments from friends about the fact that unless you are driving, you have to ride in the back seat. That has not been much of a problem for the motorcycle, but it seems to be for the Elio.

I know that the Elio needs the tandem seating for the aerodynamics, and I like it a lot. I think the Elio is a really good looking machine. It is not dumpy looking at all, but I still get complaints about riding in the back.

I am also OK with not having anyone back there because I travel alone most of the time anyway. My Sister in Law though thinks that this will not be a great Date car. Is this a real deal or is the Elio just for committed spouses? Would your significant other ride in the back behind you, for more than just one test ride?

What Say Ye?
I was introduced to this chick at my sister's party in my house and she agreed for me to take her home. I opened my garage and she saw a Porsche and an old Volvo, I said which one do you want to ride in and without hesitation, she said the Porsche of course! I dumped her fast. I did the same thing with another chick and she replied, don't matter to me as long as I'm with you! I'm still married to her 31 years later. Lesson for you...There's something wrong if a woman's attraction is on your car and not in you!:D

Good point, and congrats on the 31 years. I only had the Volvo and after 21 years of marriage, I kept the Volvo. My kids still like me though, and I have fun grandkids. They want to ride in the Elio, so what else matters?

Just waded through this thread, and I have to say that, outside of the fur seat cover, you're all missing a great product idea. Someone should make a fashionable headset/mic combo so you can be talking to each other without the one in the back raising his/her voice while you have to crane your head to put your ear over the seatback and hear what they're saying.

And while it's not so much an issue now, I would have handled the seating arrangement very well some years ago when my teen-aged daughter could have ridden in the back seat and played her Nintendo 3DS without me interrupting her with attempts at conversation.

Thanks xtspode. The cars are make believe :D Just trying to make a point! Can't even afford a decent new car, let alone a Porsche or a Volvo! But it's true that I've dated my wife of 31 years in my old and noisy Toyota Corolla. ;)

Another good comment on this thread, thanks. With only one other person in the car (max) then there is little to disrupt a conversation, and it is easy to have a quiet ride and just relax if you don't need to talk.

The Elio really is going to be great for what it was designed for, and the change in the normal seating position shouldn't really be an issue. I started the thread thinking it might be a problem based on my conversations. There have been a lot of good comments. I think it might matter to someone until they ride in it. Then the questions and comments are going to change. I am thinking that there will be positive reaction to this for the uniqueness of the view out both sides without looking around another person. The ability to go to places more often because it will be less expensive to drive. A long Sunday drive will only cost a few bucks. I think it will be a fun car to drive or ride in. I am looking forward to seeing just how much fun it is.

Go Elio

My car when I got married was a 1966 Volvo 122S. I loved it, my wife hated the clutch. I bought the old Volvo'c because they were reliable and pretty good on gas and they worked well in the snow. I had a 1957 445, 1961 544, 3 1966 122S's, 1971 264, and a 1999 S70. The new Volvo's are not quite as reliable and inexpensive, and my 1999 just died on me 4 months ago, so I do not have a Volvo anymore, and not likely to get another. Getting by with my Truck, and need to get my Geo Metro fixed I guess.

I am looking forward to the Elio as my next purchase.
