Nice Geo! I owned a 1994 Suzuki Swift, and really wish I could have held onto it. Only had 98k miles when I bought her, and ran like new. Such a simple machine and great gas mileage. Really hopeful that the Elio will be similar replacement!

I had two Metros. A 90 and a 2000. I sold the 90 when I got married and someone convinced me to sign off on a Paseo. I really wanted a Civic Hatchback. That Metro survived a sideswipe in the rear driver side by a semi trailer on wet pavement. My 2000 survived a deer strike right in the fender/ driver door area at 50 mph plus. Tough little cars and easy to work on.

Nah, I'll probably keep it around as a beater car. As far as I know, my metro is one of the best gas sippers on the road. I'm way pumped for the new dog. For awhile I've been eating Prius' for lunch. This'll run circles around them!

I have a 91 in the exact same color. It is easy to work on and I have 225,000 on mine so far.

The Elio is relatively new to me but what really fired me up was reading that the prototype was using an xfi motor. It showed me this company was serious about economy and I had to take a harder look.

That caught my attention too. I figured that with the Geo engine in it that it would last a long time and be easy to keep running. A little disappointed when they didn't keep the Metro engine, but a more modern engine is good too. Looking forward to getting my Elio though, because it looks like a bunch of fun.

xfi motor? It has a new design engine from IAV in it. What's a xfi?

Coss I am disappointed. I thought you knew everything. The Metro engine came in two versions. The xfi version had 48 HP and got a little better mileage than the LSI version. We are aware that the first couple prototype's were the only ones that had the metro and they now have the IAV engines.

Go Elio.

My wrench bending days ended in 1975, it was at the end of 75 that I went to interiors and show (fancy fancy fu fu $tuff)
Before Oct 75 I was full time mechanic and import car specialist. So the Metro's came out during my show car/interior/sunroof time; and there wasn't a lot of people that wanted to spend a lot of money on their Metro's, so I didn't see them hardly at all.

OK you are off the hook on that one. Usually high quality posts from you though. Keep up the good work.

I am only familiar with the cars I have owned. Dad was a mechanic and I picked up a few things working on my own cars, but didn't really want to do it for a living. Nearing retirement now I farm out my repair work more often. I still take care of the maintenance, but except for the Metro and the race car, I let someone else do the knuckle busting.
