The article is over three years old and we are working with the correct people to make ours work more safely. If the path we are on is not successful, we will try other paths because the single light is not as safe, in our opinion, as two.

Make sure to check out our blog at www.eliomotors.com/blog

Thank you,

That answer your question?
Same goes for the 3rd brake lite, it's not required.

The center headlight(s) is/are still required for enclosed three-wheeled (MCs) vehicles...
At the present time, except for those two that have already gotten the "look the other way" pass.
No matter who they think they're "working with". It's not about an "article". Those are the current regulations.

"If the path we are on is not successful, we will try other paths because the single light is not as safe, in our opinion, as two."

Sometimes I honestly think that, for all they shovel, EM is actually out of touch. There's no need to have only "one".
It may be necessary to have three, but when they make statements like this my eyes roll by reflex.
I'll have to hand it to them, they certainly think that they have big brass ones.

And then, in response to your first inquiry, they refer you to the blog which hasn't a thing to do with the question.

Another typical "non-answer" from EM. :(
But thanks for asking them. It's appreciated as always.

MC by the Feds for the lights and equipment.

Autocycle for some states, MCs for others.
Mostly pertains to helmets and licenses.

Regardless of whether it's classified as Autocycle or MC by the states...
Very few states still require helmets and/or endorsements.
EM's got a map on their site somewhere.

That's not me making anything. That's just the way it is.

What is the SOLO classified/registered as?
It's not classified as anything yet either Willie.
They sent Solo # 3 to the testing/certification company in November.
EMV says the U.S. certification process is going well. We don't have any details yet.

As it stands right now, the Solo will be classified as an MC by the NHTSA.
I believe that It will be classified as an Autocycle by some states...
And classified as a Motorcycle by the the others.

Some states may require airbags for a 3-wheeler to qualify as an Autocycle.
We'd have to review each state's current regulations to determine which ones.

Canada considers it an autocycle and requires crash testing, but not the stupid center light.
I guess the bottom Elio line here, once again, is (big sigh), "Just have faith in us man!".

Colorado is in the process of redefining an Autocycle and they are removing the requirement for airbags but keeping the safety belt requirement. http://leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb17-1044
