I had gotten a Geo Metro from a rental place my company arranged, for an out of town job(I think it was a joke by my manager). I needed to get some plumbing specialty parts from a local wholesaler. One of their stock handlers asked to look at it's engine, as he was thinking of getting an engine for his para-glider.

Early on the Elio's top speed was advertised to be 108 mph. Considering the vehicles' low drag coefficient, it might be possible with a driver the size of an 8-yr old, running before a light breeze.

The real note here is that you might need a long running start to achieve that speed . . . given the available torque and the high ratio final drive that would make that possible. There have been several small, highly efficient cars that achieved their top speed in fourth gear rather than their overdrive fifth.

My first car was 3,500 pounds and 72 horsepower. It could reach 93 MPH. The Elio has a much better power to weight ratio and is much more aerodynamic. I'd be surprised if it couldn't reach 108.

Geos with automatic transmissions, yes.
I test drove one with an automatic transmission and very low mileage
I pulled onto the road with a Semi coming from 1/2 mile down the road and nearly got run over before I got up to speed.

However, I owned two with manual transmissions and could do 0-60 in well under 11 seconds in both.
Owned a 1994 Suzuki Swift (Metro clone) with the manual trans and 1.3L 4 cylinder engine. Despite its size, it was a pretty quick car considering. Would have loved to find a GTI Swift, I heard those were screamers.

However it drives - I'll adjust. My BMW bike (K1200RS) could just about leave you behind, and some of the cars I've owned were quick enough to get out of the way too ('70 Roadrunner, 73 GTO). Some haven't been. (86 Suzuki Samurai I used to joke didn't need a foot feed, just an idle/max switch. At over 2000 lbs and 60 Hp, it was almost as bad as a VW bus! The Toyota Tercel would never get a speed demon tag either.) You take it easy for a bit, learn what you can (and more importantly, can't!!!) do, and drive it appropriately.

Manual always seems to make a huge difference - so much so that I've always bought new with manual when it's for me. And even when there's not much of a 0-60 difference between manual and auto, the fact that the automatic seems to takes most of the first second to even START to move generally leaves me feeling like I have a target painted on me.

The only automatic I've ever liked is the one in the Legacy I "inherited" from my wife when she got the Tacoma - and it's a CVT. But I didn't like way the Forester drove (which also had a CVT) so it's by no means a universal "like".

Comparing bikes to anything with 4 wheels (or 3) is not a fair comparison.
Yes, your BMW will run away from them, but it's not a fair comparison.

Stick vs Auto will always "feel" different but it doesn't mean it is different.

Your whole conversation makes me wonder how old you are, I don't think it's very much at all.
That's why your concepts make is sound so unfair, you really don't have a lot of experience.

But all are welcome here, no matter what your age is.

So, It's OK to make judgments as to one's age, wisdom, grasp of concepts, and experience,(in a nice way) but don't bring politics into the conversation. Hail what's his name. I wonder, too.
Hit me with your best shot! Come on, hit me with your best shot, baby.
Use 30 pt. type, censor, sanction, send me to my room. I'm good, it's all good. I still believe in Elio. 'Got a cup a haters in here', I'm not SAWFT.

I've earned points in every category on this here site except one. Know which one?
At the same time, Moderators, I understand you are not in this for the money. You are just a volunteer. If I don't like the job you are doing, I can have it next year.
I think my maintenance caffeine blood levels are low. I'll get back into the bushes with the crickets.

I can't help but observe this...
On the off chance that Ghastly is indeed much younger than many of us, he or she is not lacking for funds.
Owning even a minimally drive-able '70 roadrunner and '73 GTO indicates either age or money IMO.
Or both. And then there's the fact that he or she infers experience with a slow VW bus.

I AM PRETTY SURE THAT MY GOLIATH GOLI TRUCK WILL GET THE SLOWNESS AWARD .

IT HAS A 2cyl 500cc 2 STROKE ENGINE THE SIZE OF A LUNCH BOX
THIS RUNS THROUGH A 4 SPEED TRANNY WITH A DRIVESHAFT TO THE REAR AXLE .

THEY RATED THESE TRUCKS WITH A 1500 POUND PAYLOAD BUT IT WAS REALLY
AN EXPERIMENT TO SEE HOW MUCH WORK CAN BE DONE WITH A TINY ENGINE .

I DON'T HAVE ANY ACCELERATION FIGURES BUT TOP SPEED FOR ONE OF THESE
UNLOADED IS ABOUT 45mph , WHILE THE ISETTA GOES BLASTING BY .
