"Hidden wipers" are a challenge in icy weather. It is much more difficult coming out to your car with the wipers frozen out of sight than when you can actually get to them to break them free. I know "Pull them off the windshield before the weather hits". Again, that isn't so easy if they stop out of view. It takes a bit more planning.

Heated wipers do exist.

So do garages... Coming out from work though and having your wipers frozen to the windshield thanks to that surprise freezing rain is not on my list of fun things to deal with. Luckily, I could break up the ice, free the blades, and press on. I'm not sure heated wiper blades would have helped much at that point. Turning the defrost on high also melts away thin layers of ice and can free up the blades some times but isn't the fastest way to get on the road.

Some people don't have garages... :(

People north of the Arctic Circle should drive vettes.
