Elio Addict
The Senate had been scheduled to enjoy the entire month of August off on recess, delaying all floor votes on pending appropriations bills until September, just before FY2018 effectively begins on October 1.
But, a wrench was thrown into the works this past week when Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, failed to pass anything resembling an ObamaCare repeal and/or replacement. The White House publicly ridiculed and chastised Republican party leadership and challenged them not to go home on recess until they hammer out something "substantive" on health care. [Moderators: it takes great restraint to keep personal political views/opinions out of this post, but I'm striving to present known facts only.]
It's anyone's guess when Senate leadership will schedule final votes, but they would presumably occur prior to September 30. Otherwise, we face the looming threat of a government shutdown, which has become a hostage/sabotage tactic for gaining incremental political points these past few years. Time will tell.
The DoE Loan Programs Office having adequate funding to keep present staffing levels and continue occupying office space doesn't inherently or necessarily imply that a yay/nay decision is imminent reference Elio's pending loan application. I have read that as many as thirty applications are under further consideration and review for ATVM loan guarantee funding. Elio Motors isn't the only outfit that's been waiting patiently for years on an underwriting decision.
