Well, the Elio could have something like a rearview mirror. We test drove a Cadillac CTS a while back and noticed instead of a reflective rearview mirror it had an LCD screen instead that showed the rear camera view. This way you did not have the headrests and stuff in your way. The same can be done for the Elio. So it looks like a regular rear view mirror but displays the camera view from behind.

My bolt has a rearview mirror like this. When in the normal "day" position, it is a normal mirror which has auto-adjust for nighttime mode. Flip it to "night" mode and it turns into a display screen using the rearview panoramic camera. The camera works well during the day, as it is fairly high resolution, and a very wide angle. It is less useful at night, as the intensity of other vehicle's headlights tends to turn the view solid black with bright white spots for other vehicle's headlights.
