Apparently "lane sharing" is when two motorcycle drive side-by-side in a single lane, essentially occupying the same space as a single car.

"Lane splitting" is when motorcycles drive on the line between lanes, potentially between cars that are driving on either side within the marked lanes.

Then there's "filtering", which is when motorcycle quickly change lanes back and forth, weaving between lanes to move forward in traffic.

This site explains it, including graphics:
http://www.motorcyclelegalfoundation.com/motorcycle-lane-splitting-guidelines/

Definitions may vary from state-to-state, as apparently quite a few states do not legally define these terms.

And then you have Tesla, that doesn't use LIDAR at all.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/2/7/16988628/elon-musk-lidar-self-driving-car-tesla

Tesla claims that they can do it all safely with just Radar and cameras.

https://cleantechnica.com/2017/11/1...rovides-cost-competitive-edge-research-hints/

Could perhaps be related to that incident a few months ago where the Tesla on autopilot rammed the back of a fire truck at 65 mph?

That second article from last November, though, seems more of a cheerleader style fluff piece than a real objective article. It talks about how Tesla will hit the market with fully autonomous vehicles years before anyone else. Which is obviously BS. Waymo is planning on offering fully autonomous ride sharing services later this year. GM's Cruise Automation has already petitioned for permission to build a fleet of fully autonomous Bolt's that don't even have a steering wheel, that would hit the streets in fully autonomous mode next year.

Uber reaches self-driving fatality settlement
Mar. 29, 2018 5:24 AM ET|About: Uber (UBER)|By: Yoel Minkoff, SA News Editor
The family of the woman killed by an UBER self-driving vehicle in Arizona has reached a settlement with the ride services company, ending a potential legal battle over the first fatality caused by an autonomous vehicle.

It comes after Lior Ron, the co-founder of Uber's self-driving truck company, left the company.

Otto was bought in 2016 for a reported 1% of Uber's stock, or $680M.

Here's a scary scenario: A hacker modifies a group of autonomous cars and competes with another hacker to duplicate the movie "Death Race 2000" (1975). As one online source describes the movie: "In a dystopian future, a cross country automobile race requires contestants to run down innocent pedestrians to gain points that are tallied based on each kill's brutality." Might happen sooner that we think.

West side. There are a couple people on PNWMoto.com that handle Olympia stuff and give reports on how motorcycle related bills are doing. Lane splitting does not seem to be popular in Olympia...

Police report released. Apparently the safety driver was watching The Voice on Hulu while the car was driving around:

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2018/0...ulu-just-before-fatal-self-driving-car-crash/

"Police obtained records from Hulu suggesting that Vasquez was watching "The Voice," a singing talent competition that airs on NBC, just before the crash. Hulu's records showed she began watching the program at 9:16pm. Streaming of the show ended at 9:59pm, which "coincides with the approximate time of the collision," according to the police report."

"The report said that she looked down 166 times while the vehicle was in motion, frequently looking in the direction of her right knee."

Also, apparently Uber programmed an emergency braking routine, but didn't bother actually, you know, hooking it into the brake systems. Or to alert the driver, either.

"The NTSB report found that Uber's software "determined that an emergency braking maneuver was needed" 1.3 seconds before the crash. Unfortunately, the vehicle wasn't programmed to actually perform emergency braking procedures—nor was it programmed to alert the safety driver."

Ok, what was the driver actually looking at? Her right knee??? Why??

And you have a Robo driver installed, but didn't hook up the braking system? And no warning for the Driver?
What the hell kind of system is this? Go only??
There is either something missing in the story, or it was never installed correctly, or something got left out of the story?

None of this report makes good sense; or they're leaving something out so you can jump around and complain about these robo systems.
