With the looming trade war with China, it's a good thing Elio is manufacturing their cars in America, otherwise, Elio's current shipping may come to a hault.

I seriously doubt that Elio would have ever been able to pull off a deal with a Chinese company to build the car. It was either going to have to be here or nowhere. Don't fall into the trap of thinking we don't make things in the US.

Oh yeah, we make things in the U.S. We just need more of it. Lots more…. as in can't make enough in my book.

Let's not forget. without China there is NO Walmart, without Walmart (and others like them)- many folks would be in dire financial straits.

Think about it- We'd go to the Dollar Store, name soon to be changed to the "Five Dollar Store" It's easy to trash China, and buy America, but the reality, without cheap imports and flat wages, we'd be in deep dodo.
And if they (China)really wanted to do real damage- cash in their U.S. treasuries, sell-off their American Real estate holdings.

The reality is we are sliding into a third world country- 10 years from now The Chinese will go into their Walmart, turn over a mug, and see "Made in America," and they will turn to each other and say "how can they make products so cheap."

The short term thumping is the conflict of the reality that we are no longer #1.

Why do you think most of the recently built car factories are not American, and we are losing to Mexico?Spain, India who are developing the skills to turn out good products. Our Elio will be more expensive trying to compete the cheap overseas labor, and the financial costs of producing parts.
Think H.D- an American icon, of course they're in trouble it's an old person's bike ( me included).

If the "&" (anyone still remember the ampersand ?) sold for 20k, it'll still be cheaper than many bikes.

Did you know that Honda now builds more cars in the US than in Japan?

American Honda Motor Co. had a U.S. payroll in 2014 of $2.2 billion for 29,500 U.S.-based employees. Additionally, there are 153,000 people in the U.S. employed by dealerships that sell Honda cars, motorcycles, generators, lawnmowers and other equipment, Honda says. Using the average 2014 annual U.S. individual wage of $44,206, that would be an additional $6.76 billion in wages for which Honda is indirectly responsible.

Toyota, which had 33,765 direct employees in the U.S. in 2014, reported a total payroll of just under $2.9 billion. The company's 1,500 Lexus, Scion and Toyota dealerships had 132,900 employees, good for a $5.8 billion annual payroll at the 2014 average wages.

By comparison, General Motors counted 91,000 U.S. employees and about 4,300 dealerships with more than 250,000 workers at the end of 2014. Ford Motor Co. had 80,000 U.S. employees and 3,247 dealerships. In 2014, Chrysler had 55,000 U.S. workers and 2,630 dealerships (including 218 Fiat and Alfa Romeo showrooms).
