The Ford Ecoboost 99 HP (or whatever ) is the engine that is circulating to be the engine, and when they are stating about the helmet with license. They are speaking about here and abroad, then as Paul Elio gets into frame it's stated that Elio is working to change this in the US of course. From 2013 until now there is a lot of information in google and other sites that wasn't there when Elio started on this for good reason and you just have to go through Elio Owners for everything you may need. Look what has happened today so far with this video, it has gone from 90K to 94,572 views, or about 4.5k jump.
Preaching to the choir Buzz. The Ecoboost being the chosen engine is still speculation, but though I'd play hell finding it, I believe they actually came out at one time and alluded to the mystery motor having ~100HP. As far as the video statement about helmets and endorsements, it made it seem like helmets and endorsements were currently required everywhere including the entire US and abroad. I'm not interested in learning that information for myself. I already know it well. I even have my own website that displays the current helmet and endorsement maps as well as an Elio Motors stock ticker. I'm interested in what my text conveys to the newbie in my FB shared post. Always look at your communications from the recipients vantage point.

Criticism and controversies[edit]
Elio Motors has continuously delayed the release date, which was originally in 2012. Since then, the date has been pushed back each year.[11][12] In December 2016, the date was announced to have moved to 2018, [13] and on Nov 1, 2017 in a Facebook reply, Elio Motors mentioned the start of production aimed for 2019. These dates have made automotive analysts question the company's ability to bring a product to market. Critics have drawn comparisons to the Lit Motors C-1 and Aptera Motors, which had similar production schemes requiring more funding than was attainable, while updating production timelines to give the impression that a product was deliverable. In an effort to secure a Department of Energy loan, Elio offered advance reservations where the buyer can reserve a spot in line to possibly purchase a vehicle for a base price of $7,450.

According to KTBS news, the car company had a $123 million accumulated deficit with $101,317 in the bank on Sept. 30, 2016. [14]

Since the video came out, the channel has had 262,346 views and 95,473 (36%) have been for just Elio. That's $69.26 - $1,047 in earnings. So Elio accounted for $24.93 - $376.92 . It looks like that just making videos about Elio is more profitable than making the Elio. With all of these views, what happens now?

One of the replies for this video was from "Greg" who said:

"I don't know if you've seen how much Honda sells their engines for but it's ridiculous. Of course a deal would be made but the pricing would suffer. It would likely be half the cost of the car."

This is why I am not too critical of EM for starting to develop their own engine. Cost may have forced them to. We do not know what other car companies would charge for engines, but I suspect that is one of the reasons EM decided to build their own. The price may have suddenly become affordable. To really know, we would need to know actual prices for engines in mass quantities.

(Perhaps the engine is the Ford Ecoboost and Ford is joining with EM on this project, and we can get our vehicles serviced at Ford Dealers. Probably not, but I can still dream.)

You know Elio would be purchasing in large volume for many years, so this one engine purchase doesn't really show the full story along with other engine manufactures may have cost. Ford came out with their engine in 2012 I believe and had to get the bugs out. What ever it is, Elio could have been on the road with high mileage and low carbon footprint which is still very inexpensive. There are tens of millions of dollars that has gone to waste with 65K people waiting for a Elio.
This is what a Biro would approximately cost you in India.... $13,904.76 US Dollars

No way an engine would be half the price of the Elio. That guy is looking at MSRP for buying one engine and making that judgement. If Elio expects to sell 125K/year and they only sell 20K/year, the price will go up. I have worked with a place that makes tankers trailers for the compressed air industries and they use a VW 1.6l Diesel engine (it's literally a 1985 VW diesel engine) that makes 52hp. All it does is run the equipment to keep the gas cool. You'll see them on the highway because it'll be a tanker with a big box under it. That box houses the engine. I know those are about $1K/unit and they buy about 1K units per year.

Also, Elio never did proper validation of the engine for long term testing because if they did and the engine was ready, they would not be saving $120M in startup costs. Linamar was to foot $45M - $50M for the engine plant in Shreveport (as per SEC filing) and that will not be needed. Plus Linamar was to supply the engine, which means Elio would buy it from them.

Also, for the engine, Ford won't be servicing them. It would be like taking your VW Tourag TDI to a Porsche dealer and have them service it because it's the same as a Cayenne TDI. Or taking an Audi Q3 to a VW dealer because it's the same as a Tiguan. Same thing as taking your Slingshot or Vanderhall to a GM dealer. They won't touch it but you can buy pars for them. Ford will service anything that has a Ford chassis and engine (i.e. RV's) but typically that needs to be a dealer that does lots of fleet sales because they have the actual lifts and space to work on them.
