I'm not saying to use Tesla as a supplier but a technical partner would be something of a benefit. No matter what anyone thinks of Tesla they pretty much rewrote the book on EV's when it comes to packaging and technology. In my opinion when it comes to the engineering behind the car, Tesla beats everyone hands down. Tesla is the reason why the next wave of EV's will be designed similar to what the Model 3 is right now.

From that point of view, absolutely. I also agree that Elon Musk's version of the Electric Vehicle is the reason there are pretty much any decent electrics out there right now. It's quite similar to when Steve Jobs showed everyone that with superior engineering, you can re-launch an entire industry.

In addition to that, we have all watched the major auto companies try to go electric and use existing gassers. In the end, it just doesn't work. They tried and that's why the next generation will be more along the lines of Tesla when it comes to design.

Question- Is the Elio electric and if not, when will an electric Elio be available?

The Elio runs on good old regular, unleaded gasoline. Currently, all our focus is on getting our first model on the road, but that doesn’t rule out an alternative sourced Elio in the future!
I have no doubt in my mind that any currently available 3cyl. out there with no fancy stuffs could deliver that 70-80 mpg. that EM is shooting for given the chance to complete their R&D. So I totally agree with you Grumpy and with that kind of mileage and 500-600 mile range between fill-ups, then I don't have any need for an EV version of ELIO. This ELIO joyride will eventually ends on a happy...or sad note...I chose happy!

I'd like to see an actual test of the Elio mpg using the same test that a car is subject too. I suspect everyone here would like to see that. It's simple to do and should have been carried out many years ago. That way, Elio (he's an Engineer) would be subject to what other Engineers have to put up with (proving that what you design actually does what you say it does as opposed to what you hope or tested by yourself). I would expect everyone here would agree.

It was a big mystery what happened to that IAV test results after that initial hype created by the announcement of the new engine sometime in 2015.

Trust me, I asked Elio about this twice and they assured me that the test was going to come out. If soon means more than three years, then I guess they are safe. It's no different than the tube frame chassis and plastic body.

Did you just asked him recently or if not what year was that?
