Staying Warm in the Elio
February 1, 2019

Happy Friday Elio’ers! In case you’ve been living under a rock (or in an igloo without Wi-Fi) there have been two stories dominating headlines this past week. The first story sweeping the nation is the greatest day of the year for football fans: Super Bowl Sunday. The flashy, upstart Los Angeles Rams are taking on the venerable, battle-tested New England Patriots. If you’re like us and don’t have a dog in the fight, you’re probably just rooting for a close, exciting game. The second story taking America by storm is the brutal polar vortex freezing much of America this week. In today’s Friday Blog, we’ll take a look at how the Elio will handle the winter cold.

The Elio’s climate control features include heat, defrost, and air-conditioning as standard equipment. As an autocycle, the heater is automotive in design (Our HVAC partner is RedDOT is an expert in cabin comfort). We have engineers from Michigan, so we know the value of a heater that can keep up in the dead of winter. We have not yet tested if the heater will put up with temperatures of -55, but it will definitely take the edge off the normal everyday winter freeze.

As a matter of fact, we had our supplier RedDOT test the strength of the Elio’s heater. From an earlier Momentum, “To test the heater, the environmental chamber is cooled to temperatures just below 0 degrees Fahrenheit and soaked overnight. Then, the vehicle’s heater is cranked on to heat the E1D…The temperature inside the E1D rose to comfortable temperatures quickly, similar to most vehicles on the road today.” While not a sauna on wheels, winters in the Elio will be comfortable as long as you’re not cruising around Siberia.

This time of year, we receive more than a few questions about available options to enhance comfort during the winter months. Among the most popular questions from Alaska is will we offer a block heater to help the engine during extreme temperatures. Like many of our potential options, if there is enough demand, you can count on it being available. Other option requests include heated seats, heated mirrors, and a remote starter. These will almost assuredly be available as options and hopefully, make the terrors of winter a little more bearable.

Air conditioning may be far from your mind right now, but the A/C in the Elio will keep up in the summer heat as well. Just like we have engineers from Michigan, we also have engineers from Arizona, so we know the importance of keeping cool during the summer!

Thanks for your support and have a super and warm weekend!

This link here was the last time it was brought up...

https://www.eliomotors.com/the-elio-hvac-testing-update-elio-momentum-v76/

So it sounded like Elio was overall pleased with the test, while acknowledging some stuff might need to be improved. I would assume Elio got it back to make adjustments on the car itself.

With that said, Ty’s post reminded me that the E1a was sent to Continental and we’ve heard nothing of it since.

So I sent Elio an email and just got a reply...

Title: A topic for a future update, if at all possible...

Body: I realize that there's a lot that you can't talk about due to NDA's or getting knocked by the SEC, but I was wondering... is it possible to go into any further details about the E-Series vehicles you guys sent off to various places? For example, you did a blog about E1d, how it performed overall, ETC. But we never heard much more about the E1a... there was video of the white trike handed off to Continental for brake work, but nothing else. How'd that go?

Are either of those trikes being used by Roush to implement the new power-train?

I would love it if the answer is yes, because I think this type of content would garner some new positive word of mouth, but again, I understand fully if for various reasons you cannot discuss even that. I just know the type of blogs that have been put out lately has soured some of the Elio Groups I hang out in, so was trying to think of stuff you could talk about to gain excitement back up.

In any event, thanks for reading, hope you all have a great week and much success in getting funding!

Thanks for your great feedback Ryan- we've passed it along to the right people!

They didn’t tell me they couldn’t talk about it... so here’s hoping for a more informative blog in the future!

Well, I can honestly say that I have NOT been cold in my Elio during this Winter Vortex :p

People stay warm on snow mobiles too. This blog from Elio was pretty lame. Next they might tell us why they are using black tires, but I'm probably wrong. Perhaps they will talk about the superbowl?

The Process
February 8, 2019

Happy Friday Elio’ers! How was your Super Bowl Sunday? The beauty of this unofficial holiday is that there is something for just about everybody to love. Dig football- you’re all in. A fan of savory snacks and belt-busting appetizers- check. A fan of music and extravagant stage shows- yep. To the surprise of many, this game ended up featuring the defenses of both teams and not the high-flying offenses. Congratulations to everyone in the New England area and kudos to the Patriots on another Super Bowl victory!

One team that came close to reaching the super bowl was the New Orleans Saints. Speaking of Louisiana it is our home manufacturing state, and our plant is an endless source of curiosity for fans of the Elio. As we continue to work on the next round of funding, this week’s blog is going to be from the archives and provides an inside look at how the Elio will be manufactured.

Part 1– Let’s start with an overview of our facility in Shreveport.
Part 1– Let’s start with an overview of our facility in Shreveport.

Part 2– Next, we take a look at the body shop of the plant.

Part 3– We now move on to the process the vehicle will undergo after it leaves the raw stamping phase.

Part 4– The vehicle is now ready to be painted, and the process is more involved than you might think.

Part 5– After the paint has been applied, the vehicle is transferred to a different building and we can add parts to the vehicle.

Part 6– At last, the vehicle is ready for final inspection before it heads out to meet a happy Elio owner.

Thanks for your support and have a great weekend!

Dang it!! I changed the color of part 1 to red, why can I not change part 2 & 3?
any way click on Part 1, through 6, and that will take you to what they are talkin about.

The red part 1 wont link, but the black part one will.

I see a pattern. The next blog will be about Valentines day. The Elio will come in red for your sweetheart. The blog after that will be about Presidents day. Then Ash Wednesday and Daylight Savings Time the following weeks. It's so lacking any real (new) Elio information that I almost wish they would stop putting out the blog.

The person/s writing up these blogs are getting paid to do it (my guess) so as much as they know and realize it ain't convincing anymore to some reservation holders (I would be very surprise if they're not reading our comments about their blogs) , it's just a job to them.

By the Numbers
February 15, 2019

Happy Friday Elio’ers! From the archives, this week takes a look at the Elio by the numbers!

Not long ago, we did some Elio Motors math in the Friday Blog and we like to think we were able to make math fun! While we did the math for you, this week will be even easier as we look at the Elio by the numbers.

1 – Door: The Elio has one door on the left side of the vehicle. Why only one? Having one door cuts down on both weight and costs. Also, one door allows us to have a stronger unibody frame, making the Elio a safer vehicle.

2 – Occupants: This one is self-explanatory- two occupants can sit in the Elio.

3 – Wheels: Our three-wheeled configuration comes with some built-in advantages, including lower costs, access to the HOV lane, and an undeniably unique look!

7 – Colors: In order to keep costs down, we have decided to offer seven standard colors: Creamsicle, True Blue, Marshmallow, Licorice, Red Hot, Sour Apple, and Rocket Silver. If there’s a color that you desire which is not on that list, we plan on offering a variety of different wraps!

32 – Pounds: Estimated number of pounds the tour team consumed in fudge from their favorite stop in Missouri on their multiple trips across our great country.

36 – States: Number of states that have hosted a tour stop… on our way to 50!

49 – MPG City: The Elio is designed to get 49 MPG around town

70+ – Blue Chip Suppliers: Our network of some of the best suppliers in the business is a big part of the project.

84 – MPG Highway: This is an important number for our commuting fans and as we mentioned in our recent “math blog”, that adds up to some serious savings.

120 – Retail centers: We plan on having 120 Elio retail centers across the country after all the reservation holders’ vehicles have been shipped. Find the map below!

200+ Tour Stops: While the tour is currently on a break while we focus on the next round of funding, we have had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of thousands of folks at over 200 tour stops across the country! We were unable to calculate how many gallons of hand sanitizer was used…

672 – Mile range: The Elio’s gas tank holds 8 gallons, so multiply that by 84 and you get a 672-mile range. On a road trip, the gas tank will definitely outlast your bladder.

12.5k- Calls: It’s never a dull moment for our customer service team, who have fielded over 12,500 calls in our history. If you ever think your phone bill is high, this stat should come as some comfort!

13.7k – Twitter Followers: Speaking of, this number could definitely be higher- if you’re on Twitter, follow us!

28.2k: $1,000 All-In reservations: If you were to make a $1,000 All-In reservation today, you would be around 28,200 in the reservation queue.

145k – Emails: We have received and answered over 145,000 emails over the years from fans and customers.

3.2mm -Square feet: Our plant in Shreveport, Louisiana, actually has more square footage than the Empire State Building. We will take up what we need and leave the rest for other manufacturers. Take that, Big Apple!

∞ – Number of possibilities: Through our option program, you’ll feel like you’re at a restaurant: you can order your options a la carte. This way, you’ll be able to pick an endless configuration of different option combinations.

65,000+: Our reservation holders:

This number is out of sequence here but is the most important to us. Without the support of our reservation holders, this journey would not be possible. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your continued support and for coming along this journey with us!
