I miss my ‘12 Smart Car.

It was a great little urban “grocery getter”.

I modified the interior, exterior, suspension, and drivetrain.

It was a quirky little thing, but I enjoyed it immensely!

Gas mileage was horrible, but it was fun to drive!

Sold the Smart Car in 2016. It was going to be replaced by a customized Elio.

Here’s another one of my quirky vehicles.

No A/C, heater, power steering or power brakes, but I did upgrade it to a 12 V electrical system!

And, consistently leaks oil.

Did I mentioned it doesn’t have cruise control?

They certainly don’t make them like they used to! LOL

I don't miss mine,,,, CAUSE I'M STILL DRIVIN IT!!!
I waited almost a year to get my 08. At the time, that seamed like a long time, but what did I know.
It fits my needs perfectly. I have had fun makin small changes, muffler, wheels, springs and body panels.
When I bought it, it was black, black, black.

after driving it to work a few days, I discovered, this thing attracts attention!!!
I could not get any work done. People would just be passin by, and turn around and come back just to ask about it! So my first mod was to change body panels!

Easy enough to get another one in good condition with low mileage cheap. Or good condition higher mileage for even cheaper since it sounds like you are comfortable working on them yourself. Carmax and Carvana have a ton, and I am sure Auto trader and local craigslist do as well. When I was looking for a commuter a couple years ago I was torn between the Smart cabriolet and the Miata.

I opted for the Miata after test driving both, but I think a highly modified Smart would be a hoot. My mother-in-law has a Smart they tow behind their RV as a runabout, I may pick that up for fun if they decide to move on to something else in a few years.

I was pretty surprised at the poor milage those get for the size. The 'Diablo', 'Smartuki' or any of the other 150-200 hp motorcycle engine conversions are pretty awesome. There used to be a vid of one on a road race course coming around the last corner and down the straight but I can't seem to find it now.

You should build a Cobra Kit car. A guy down the street is doing that and it looks like it'll be fun when he gets done. He sold his Slingshot to build the Cobra.

the reason the smart does not get very good gas mileage is same reason the Elio will get good gas mileage, Aerodynamics.

I too am still driving my 09, though not as much as I used to since I got the Volt.
I also waited a year for it and in over 160,000 miles it has never let me down :D
