Lately, I've been doing some "What if" wondering.
Knowing how cut throat, dog eat dog, the corporate world is.
Is a corp. out there just waiting in EM to go bankrupt. So they can pickup the company for pennies.
If they did,
would they throw away 65,000 potential customers, us,?
would they honor our "bonus money"?
would they honor our "locked in" price?
would they build it in Shreveport?
would they keep the "Elio my way" program?
would they keep the "pep Boys" service program?
would any of EMs MOU be honored?

Now,
If they did not honor our "spot in line", "our bonus", "Our locked in price", " built in America", "able to pick own options, or lack of options" or forced to buy at a "dealership"!,,

Would you still buy an Elio?

Unless they priced it out of my range, or built a shadow of the potential, Yes I'd buy it.. I'd work what I've spent based on the image of the Elio, along with my "Z" into the appearance of it as well..

Call me super crazy, but I just bought a few more shares of stock. I still have a little hope. That said, I am only all-in for $100.
Figure if Elio goes belly up, I can write the stocks off as a loss. Can't do that with the non-refundable funds.
With the shares being so cheap, it's easy to pick up a few here or there when it drops below $2.50. I consider that a better risk as opposed to throwing down $1K years ago and agreeing on the $7K price. Right now if you buy up a bit here and there when it's cheap, you will make much more than what you saved with locked in price and bonus. In the end, if they go to production, you get your Elio and the stock price will jump a pretty good amount. I've already made my money off of the pump and dump. So now I sit on some stock that could easily buy me come Elio My way pricier options. If Elio goes bankrupt and the stock is no good, I'm still out ahead.

So, if Elio doesn't make a car, then you won't buy it, if they do, then you will. I run into the same thing. If Ford makes a 2021 Ford Fiesta for the US, I'll buy it. If they don't, then I won't.
Yup, just not going to fret about it.
The whole commuter-autocycle issue will just stay on my table until I satisfy it or I meet up with Jesus (Buddha, universal mind, or what ever!).

I deposited my $100 not because I thought Elio would be a success, but because I wanted it to be a success. From the outset, the 84 mpg was unattainable. The $7,300 price tag was unrealistic. But I bought in anyway.

At the 2001 Daytona Bike Week, I had examined the Corbin enclosed 3-wheeler and the open air T-Rex side by side. The concept was intriguing. The main thing that appealed to me was that the Elio could be an HOV lane cheater, which is where I thought the most sales could come from. But I could be wrong, I often am.

While most automobile manufacturers strive to make driverless cars,
Elio has succeeded in making carless drivers.

But I still have my T-shirt and wear it proudly. Keep the faith.

I doubt I would buy one if there was nothing honored with the current agreements. I am certain the price would go up if nothing else. I am not sure I will pick mine up if it is actually offered at this point! My desire to crawl in and out of small spaces has diminished a lot in the last 5 years. I would have to get in and out of one and check them out in person before deciding.

If they went bankrupt, the deal on the plant would end, the equipment would go up for sale and the refundables would get their money back. Whatever the money made on the equipment and remaining assets would go to the lease and loan holders. Then whoever owns the intellectual rights to Elio would have to decide what to do. The chance of anyone coming in and taking over Elio as it is, will never happen without major renegotiation of the existing contracts. The job works program would have to be eliminated, the back lease would have to be eliminated and the equipment loan and assessment would have to be renegotiated. The downfall is, that plant equipment has been idle for 7 years and it doesn't increase in value and the Elio design is becoming dated.

With the remaining 58K reservations, they would need to send out a survey to see a few things.
1. How many people are still interested in the Elio? I know not all 58K will want one today. That's an unrealistic expectation because some have died, moved on or family/financial situations changed.
2. Of the remaining ones interested, would they still be interested if the contract was renegotiated? Many will bail because if it's not what they have expected, they will walk away. So you need to know that number.

Of those still interested, then you need a new survey
1. What price are you willing to pay out of pocket today for an Elio?
2. What mileage are you willing to accept?
3. What level of safety are you willing to accept?
4. If it's built outside the US is that OK?
4. Would you buy an Elio if it was only offered as an EV?

At that point then it'll become clear as to what to do. Until then you'll never know what the majority are willing to accept and if it's feasible to continue the Elio project as is or change it.

EM is still around so I have not given up....but have given in to another 3wheeler who's got the potential to actually deliver in the form of SOLO EV! ;)
I agree 100%. I will be awaiting my Elio until I get my Solo. It doesn't cost anything more to hope there will be an Elio some day. I already have the expensive Tee-shirts and devalued stock. Arcimoto also let me down with the release of their Evergreen model at almost $20K rather than he original $11.9K. I will continue to enjoy driving my 2003 Corvette convertible until my Elio is delivered.

Arcimoto as a startup, burning through cash at the production starting line, made the decision to offer the optioned Evergreen Edition out the gate to balance the profit curve on the first roll out FUVs. I was disappointed too, but understand why they did it. They can’t build and sell vehicles at a loss. As production scales, the $11,900 base model will be available. I was hoping for the $11,900 base with a couple of options with a closer to $15K out of pocket. After my the test drive experience, the FUV is worth the wait.
