On Thursday afternoon at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Brad Keselowski opined that the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets were the fastest cars in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series garage.

Turns out he was right — about one of them, at least.

As twilight approached at the 1.5-mile intermediate track, William Byron turned a lap in 29.440 seconds (183.424 mph) in his No. 24 Chevy to win the pole position for Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 (6 p.m. ET on FOX, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio), earning the distinction as the youngest pole winner in the 60-year history of NASCAR’s longest race—and at Charlotte Motor Speedway, for that matter.

Yup, and the last 100 miles thins out the field, I've seen it happen many many times.
And usually it's someone new to win.
Maybe the 24 will get his first.

the lap turned by the car starting 20th was 1/3 of a second slower than the car sitting on the pole .... that's a pretty tight field

Last year, Danica Patrick returned to the historic track for one last ride before calling it a career. Now, the famed driver will be up in the booth alongside Mike Tirico and Dale Earnhardt Jr. as part of NBC's coverage.... as a warmup for when the real racing begins, I'm trying to watch the Indy race .... looks like they have one heck of a crowd .... sadly the way they have their microphones setup, the engine noise pretty well blocks being able to hear the commentators

The finish was pretty good, and a Chevy takes it.
It was a good race, now for sun shine, food and the real race at 3:00 (well they cut to the track at 3, probably get started 3:30 or 3:45)
The Chevy's have been strong, but I'm going to have to go with a Ford. The Toy's will get pushed out of the way again.
