Aptera has at least as good of a production history as Elio? Elio actually HAS a prototype... OOPS... I forgot they actually did build one. So, I'd put their production on par with Elio's.

a plug in hybrid option was mentioned on this site.
Wikipedia - Aptera 2.

they mention a Zaptera? Autoblog mentions it will push on with a gas and electric versions. I think a gas version (perhaps a Liquid Piston rotary engine generator to power the wheels and charge the batteries) would be a great option IMO.

According to Fox News (dated 2013) the 200 mpg Aptera is still in the works. I like the idea of a 200 mpg gas powered version. I wonder what engine it would or could (like the Liquid Piston rotary engine) use?

Electric or gas or hybrid, I just want to test drive one.

Aptera built several vehicles, and competed in the Automotive X-Prize. I followed them quite closely several years ago, glad to see they're not completely lost to history.

Please provide some links because I find nothing of this at all. When I say that, I'm talking about the current Aptera, not the previous version that is dead and has been dead for years. The current Aptera is 1000 miles with no ICE at all. If this is current news, then I want to see it as I will be asking Aptera why they are pushing this and not telling investors.

I'm not sure a 1000mi range is worth the extra purchase price if this is just for commuting. At the cost of replacement packs, one might be better off with a 500 mile range or less, since most recharging could happen at home. Otherwise if this is meant for vacation driving 1000 miles, that gives well over 12 hours of driving. And maybe that makes it more worth it for some people.

Or is this range based partly on attached solar panels during the day while driving? I guess I'm a little short on understanding this Aptera version 2.

Either way, what does an Aptera accomplish for the normal driving situation that a Tesla common sedan model doesn't? Being more efficient only helps if the sales price is the same or less.

OK, admittedly, I do also think we should acknowledge that cost aren't the only decision factor at play. People perceive (right or wrong) by buying EVs they are helping to save the planet.

In my view an EV at least puts us in the position where we 'could' change the infrastructure to help the environment.

Frankly some kind of power-in-road would be much-much better for costs (per vehicle) as well as the environment.

I'm just looking at what they are telling investors. That's what we need to look at as opposed to optioning it out the way we want it to be. Just like Elio, they have the best of the best and would never give the investors the wrong numbers because that would be lying. Of Aptera, no solar panels, hybrid, liquid piston or Mr Fusion. It's just a BEV and that's all. If there is new news of any of these alternate power sources, then their investor page needs to be updated to reflect that.

At this point nobody has built any consumer ready 3 wheeler that gives 84 mpg or 1000 miles on a charge. Until that happens, it's just a dream. Same for Rivian. Until they have that thing ready for consumers and tested by outside sources for their specifications, they are only a dream. Modeling it with a computer is one thing, what it does in real life is another. That's why we created standards. To keep the dreamers from finding the sweet spot to get the numbers that make the product look better than it really is. Just like all of the power numbers of the muscle car era. They were way under what was posted up until they were required to have an official spec.

I see where Aptera has reached 500 people that invested $500 or more to have priority on the first pre-order list. They now have 768 investors and have raised over $334 thousand dollars. They just closed out their first round of funding. I realize it is a long shot but at least they are still moving forward. I am presently debating on investing in Aptera since I believe the Elio is dead.

I will finish out one Atlantric in EV or ICE for anyone that pays $50K up front. Better make that $75K. I don't have my body tooling done. 2 years to delivery.

OK, I was just dreaming/trash talking out front. It would take 'huge' amounts of stupid for me to give-up $75k to some random guy on a forum. I don't expect anything different from others.

Now the $1000 I gave to EM, that was a reasonable risk (at the time), IMHO. I don't think the Aptera2 is a viable venue, at THIS time.
