There. I took out any religious reference, specific locations, and historical names. Now you should be happy.

BTW: It was not religious bashing. Quite the contrary but I understand some people are more sensitive than others in this day of age. I'm sorry that you took it that way.
I forgive you.

Most of the components are made in the US. Contrary to popular belief, the supplier market is in hypermode due to so many making pats now in the US. This is because automation has solved the "Made in China" problem. There's a reason why Polaris is in Huntsville, there are at least 2 dozen OEM suppliers within 100 miles of that town. This is why the new Toyota/Mazda plant is opening there.

Another example is that VW located in Chattanooga because of the tax breaks and the massive supplier network that is local (all because of BMW when they opened up Spartansburg back in the 90's which is the largest BMW plant on the planet and they export 70% of what they make). The VW plant uses 85% North American content for the Passat. I know from my work there, only 3% is from China.

Plus remember do not confuse North American content with being made in USA. North American Content is USMCA which is Canada, USA and Mexico. Technically Elio could make 90% North American content and that 90% could all be made in Mexico. People just tend to only cherry pick the word "American". Since NAFTA does not exist any more, we are all seeing an increase in the cost of parts because with USMCA, if I make pistons in the US and pay people $15/hr, then in Mexico, I need to pay them $15/hr, not $5/hr like in the NAFTA days. Companies are not moving plants here in record numbers because if you already have the plant there, no sense in shutting it down and building a new one here. So we just pay the Mexicans more.

The problem with Elio Motors is that they took over the Shreveport plant back in 2013. Times have changed and thus the supplier base is not there any more but about 500 to 700 miles east of there. Then states like Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and Georgia give great tax breaks for manufacturing jobs. As for Elio, not the case, they literally have to pay to be there (as we have seen by the over $8M in fines they have). So, I just wonder how Elio motors is going to handle this as they priced this thing out a long time ago. I know companies make trucks in Texas but they have a massive profit margin, not the $1K that Elio has confirmed.
NAFTA is still alive and USMCA has not been approved by congress yet.

LETS PLEASE LEAVE THE RELIGION BASHING OUT OF OUR COMMENTS!!!!!!
I'M SICK OF PEOPLE THINKING ITS OK OR EVEN FUNNY TO BASH OTHERS MOST SACRED BELIEFS!
THIS FORUM IS NOT THE PLACE FOR IT!
Huh? did I miss something? I didn't see any bashing here. Just some frank information, which that I appreciate. OIC, he scrapped something. OK I really like what was left.

I like this forum because it leaves out politics and religion. A welcome change from real life. Thank you R S for editing your post.
I hope the rest edit out their references to other religions too because there seems to be plenty of them (even from mods) on this site. This no place for them and I have been very insulted reading them over the years. We need to go further and when it comes to sex, orientation and color of the skin. One here made fun of deaf people and I was hurt because my brother was born deaf.

Good thing is we did a metric century with my best friend (who lived across the street from me) and we'd been friends for 50 years who is from a religion I was bashing. He discovered that my religion was being made fun of because I was an altar boy for 8 years, and thus have been the center of ridicule with jokes that have hurt me (which I didn't realize until today). We are now on our way of healing and hopefully we can cleanse this site of anything that can hurt anyone because it's not right.

Thanks Samalross and others that were terribly hurt by my horrible comments. It's a long road ahead for me and I hope that it will be brought to the proper authorities of past infractions and all future ones.

Again, I apologize to anyone that I insulted.

You were an alter boy? Go figure, so was I.
If I went to church now, the walls would crumble.

Ok. that's enough religion for today.

Not insulted. I'm neither religious or politically involved.

Something similar for me too. Definitely a subject you can only bring up with like minds. Count yourselves lucky we ducked THAT bullet, mine especially, lol.
Part of me is very curious what these hidden perspectives are (the experimenter in me can't help that), and my more pragmatic parts are very glad to not go there. I'm sure in many cases we would be either surprised or appalled. (send a private note and I'll do both, but you'll have to give as much as you take!, err the reverse too?...ouch OK, no-no-no I take it back...mostly)

Ah, what were we talking about? Oh yea, how to get Paul to send us some news-candy?

Reference to a particular religious view is not religion bashing. Quit wearing your feelings on your shirtsleeve. I often go to atheist websites as a Christian and never get hurt feelings. Since Paul has not been good at giving us any hope about getting an Elio, what else is there to come here for?
