To give a bit more perspective on why people are willing to plunk down for a deposit on this thing (apparently it's north of 200k deposits already).

Our 2017 X90D:
Seats 6
Range 257 miles
Charging 140kW
Towing 5,000 lbs
Cost $118k

Cybertruck Dual Motor:
Seats 6
Range 300+ miles
Charging 250+ kW
Towing 10,000 lbs
Cost $50k

The Cybertruck is a ridiculously good value. It may not be as practical for every use case of a pick-up, but it's a lot more utility than any other BEV on the market. If you look at Rivian, the only model they're going to sell that gets anywhere near the specs of the Cybertruck is supposedly $90k...and it only as a 4.6ft bed, 11,000lbs towing, and 400 miles of range. The tri-motor Cybertruck nets 500+ miles of range, and 14,000 lbs towing...for only $70k.

The Cybertruck is an insanely good value, and that's why people are able to overlook the radical styling. As for me, I was completely aghast when the thing rolled up on stage, but after seeing the videos and pictures that have come out over the last day or so I'm really starting to dig the design. YMMV

I think that if the styling was different they might have 500k deposits

Tesla hasn't stated, explicitly, but the styling may have been necessary to allow for the specs and pricing. Apparently, the shape and materials allows them to save millions in tooling costs...and potentially allow them to get more range out of a smaller battery pack. The Rivian needs a 180kWh battery to reach 400 miles...for instance. Haven't heard about battery sizes on the Cybertruck to confirm they are smaller, but it seems likely to be smaller based on the stated pricing.

You are probably right. Hope the styling grows on me.

I love the iconic American automobile styles from the 1930s to the early 1970s. Weird, but I love the styling on this thing. I'm usually one who hates and resists change and I'm not even into trucks. This thing had me at first glance. I only wish I had a spare 50K to throw at it.
