Right, we all want Elio to succeed, but some of us are concerned it won't. My uneducated guess is that the delays are mostly driven by budgetary limitations. The more reservations and interest, the more likely an investor is to sign up.
I don't think we're at 136,000 orders yet. The YouTube page for that video says it was uploaded March 2013. I'm pretty sure if Elio had a solid order for 125,000 units, they would be promoting that.
It will be interesting to see the customizations and aftermarket stuff available for Elio. I'm not interested in aftermarket HP increases because they usually void the warrantee.
Edit: If the Elio has 55hp and 1,200lb that's a Power-to-Weight Ratio (PWR) of 0.0458hp/lb. A 1995 Honda Odyssey’s...
If the Elio can do 0-60 in under 9.6 seconds, that would be sufficient for me. I've got a 1995 Honda Odyssey that is reported to have a 0-60 time of around 10.1 seconds and that car does ok on the highway.
Even so, I'd prefer an option of 65-70hp Elio and I'd be willing to pay more for it. Many...
I applaud those taking the high ground of wanting 84mpg above all else.
In order for Elio to be part of the solution it must succeed, and there is no guarantee it will. Offering an increased HP option could help Elio succeed by bringing in more customers and increasing profit margins.
55hp for...
I understand the desire to keep it simple and get it out the door soon.
I want to see Elio succeed.
In my humble opinion, offering a higher HP option makes good business sense because it expands the potential customer base. Many cars have options for different engines with varying levels of...
I agree that we'll start seeing after-market items if it catches on. That will probably included 'chipping' options very similar to what I described. But, I'd prefer to be able to get a high HP ECU out the gate.
Elio should offer an OEM option that changes the programming of the Engine Control Unit to provide higher horsepower--this would likely result in lower MPG for this version. Many potential Elio buyers want high mpg above all else, which is why this should be an option. On the other hand, many...
A lot of people, including me, like the idea of a higher performance version down the line, after they make good on producing the initial model with the promised characteristics.
An ElectroMagnetic Pulse attack would probably only affect a small proportion of cars according to this report prepared for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The report is long, but the above point is covered on the last couple of...
ha ha, yeah some of the questions are pretty lame. But hey, that's facebook. Lot's of people see it for the first time on their smartphone and just post their question. I have no problem with that, I just don't answer those.
Seems to me there are a couple people over their who respond a bit...
outtaget1, i think the '15 hp deviation' just reflects different estimates over time as more information arrived. If that is the case, the current 60 hp estimate is the most accurate.
This is all a moving target, but last I read...
EMI was projecting starting production by the end of 2014 and starting delivery the first quarter of 2015. Given the complexities, I figure there's a good chance that delivery will start later than that.
I agree with Quick. EMI has indicated...
A post from early January 2014 in the following thread suggested that a "Flame spray process" will be used instead of cylinder liners. Later in the thread someone suggests they may use "Plasma transferred wire arc thermal spraying." The source of that info is not stated so who knows if it is...
Thanks KScarguy, good question, and good info from Elio. 220lbs front and read is pretty generous. I guess you'd want to avoid 200lb in the front 240lb in the back or the like.
Regarding using it for touring, it seems a bit small to me. Plus I like sitting next to my fellow traveler. OTOH, if...
I'm sure there will be cargo and towing weight limits. Every car I've owned has them in the manual. It also makes sense that it one should avoid loading a lot of weight in the back of a reverse trike. I can't say exactly what those limits will be. I do recall reading about a man over 6 foot and...
