Is The Cam Drive Belt Or Chain?

I like to keep my vehicles as long as possible ( current SUV 284,000 miles ), unless something comes along that is a lot better.

The P5: What Would You Change?

I like that better also, except for the exposed wheel.

Performance Tires For The Elio Will Be A Pain.

MPG is also the most important for me, but also hope it has sporty handling, not just an econo box.

Performance Tires For The Elio Will Be A Pain.

I can see not going wider for mileage reasons, but is there a tire that is narrow that has a lower profile for better handling, even if you had to go to a 16" wheel?

Elio Gauge Cluster - Lord Elgin? - Other Options?

It is pretty pricey compared to what you can get online.

    Metal...body?

I think they went to steel primarily because Shreveport is set up to make stamped steel.

    Metal...body?

I believe Ziebart went out of business, but there are similar applications available, especially in Canada. This is supposed to be touched up annually, but still has limited ability to protect the painted sheet metal. It is better for protecting the under carriage and the bottom of your doors.

    Metal...body?

Yes, when I lived in Flagstaff, AZ, I didn't have to worry about rust, even in my Fiat X 1/9. Both the Saturn and steel are both painted, so it shouldn't make a difference in fading. You may be right about the cracking, but the steel will get dings that the Saturn won't.

    Metal...body?

The under-carriage can be sprayed with an oil/wax treatment annually, that is messy but prevents corrosion. It doesn't' really matter what the frame looks like as long as it is protected, however that doesn't help the car's skin. Luckily the outbound wheels will help protect the inset body from...

    Metal...body?

I agree that cars have come along way in rust proofing, but my Saturn's composite body held up way better than my '99 Mercedes SUV. The zinc in galvanized metal is a sacrificial material that when salt uses it up, it stops protecting. I'm sure metal is cheaper especially in high quantity...

    Metal...body?

I t doesn't make sense to me to make the test prototypes with SMC if you want representative results for many of the tests, though I realize they are already set up for SMC, so would probably be quicker To produce.

    Metal...body?

i will probably still purchase an Elio since I'm all in, but am very disappointed that it is going to be steel. I believe Elio is right in it being cheaper, and easier to make and more recyclable, but not as ecological as I probably won't keep it as long because in the rust belt it's appearance...

    The Elio Engine

Does that mean not needed to reach 55 hp or that it wouldn't it wouldn't add that much more efficiency? Noticed that the target weight has been increased by about 100 lbs., so seems they would need a little more power to still achieve the same 0 - 60 goal.

    Nh - Where Art Thou?

I'm from Bedford, NH and all in for $1000.

    Metal...body?

Actually, I have on car shows. Even though the body doesn't rust the frame does, but still better than an all metal body.

    Metal...body?

I know a composite body isn't part of the 4 tenants, but it sure would be nice not to be constantly touching up rusted spots after the first few years like I have to do on my 17 year old Mercedes SUV. Prevention is a lot easier than repair, and a lot less work. No metal treatments I've seen on...

    Metal...body?

However, the frame can be protected with an oil/wax undercoating, and I hope they offer an optional belly pan for both aerodynamics, and to shield the frame from salt. Much easier to just protect the frame vs the whole body. Plus the composite panels resist dings to keep your Elio looking good...

    Elio Weight?

Either one will require treatment as salt even corrodes aluminum.

    Elio Weight?

I realize that, and have replied to Elio directly. Also understand that "Sheet molded composite is still the design direction", and am all for experimentation, but living in NH, would rather not have to fight to prevent rust, etc.so am trying to discourage them from going steel.
